Is there anything that would stop you from naming your DC a certain name.

It seems from recent posts that having another kid in the family or social circle with the same name would not stop many from chosing a certain name, but is there anything that would stop you, if you liked the name?

I have a whole bunch of things . . .

1. no Ex-bf or gf names (DH actually likes the name of a guy I was *engaged to* . . . NO WAY!!!!!)

2. no names that rhyme with dirty words (i.e. chuck is out)

3. no names that are really popular (if I know more than 2 other babies with the name its out)

4. no celebrity baby names (and if Angelina doesn't stop adopting soon all the good ones will be taken!!!)

I would not want to name my child names that end in "o". We have an Italian 3 syllable last name so they would rhyme!

I wouldn't name them after ex-boyfriends either.

My only big thing was no really italian names. DH is 1/2 italian and I am -0- italian.

He likes certain names that I just couldn't picture naming my child. This is just an example, and not one he suggested but for instance "Mario." If I'm not italian, I would NOT name my kid Mario!!

Nothing too trendy

Nothing same as a friend's child - this knocks out a lot of names

Nothing with bad connotations (DH says we can't name the baby Jeremy b/c of Pearl Jam)

Really would rather not name the child after a family member, I want them to have their own name, similar reason to the friend's child thing

ITA.

Also no naming after anyone, since both our families have done this at length. And nothing so complicated that our DC will be constantly correcting people (I grew up with a name that is CONSTANTLY butchered).

We are very Italian, and so we are going with Italian names. I have noticed that there is somewhat of a trend in naming kids with very ethnic names, even if it is not the ethnicity of the baby. At the risk of getting flamed, it always makes meChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I always said that too. In fact I was really adamant about it. I always thought Madison was an original name...then I found out it is like #2 in popularity and I said, "screw it...I still love it".

Nothing in the top 10 for the last 3 years, nothing that ends in "i" or "y" b/c our last name ends in "i" and the thought of rhyming names makes my skin crawl, and the never ending battle of not naming a Chat Icon after DH.

I can just imagine how much harder this is when you actually have to make a decision instead of it all being "when" and "what if".

Ok ....not preggers yet but DH is killing me with possible names. I am Irish, German with a little French. He very Italian. He said he only cares about what the boys name will be. His suggestions are:
Don Carlo
Calogero
Carmine
Vito
and many others which are along these lines.
No offense to other people that like these names, it's just that I was looking for something that's a compromise....and he's not Chat Icon

I try and stear away from really popular names...However..I must be pretty good at picking out names that are going to be popular b/c my kids names all wind up on the top 20 about 5 years after their birth...

No ex's...
