Single process coloring - anyone do it themselves?
I need to get my hair colored and honestly I don't have the time to go to the salon. I should have done it a few weeks ago when I got it cut. Since I don't want highlights this time, I was thinking why can't I do it myself.
Anyone do this? Any tips?

Re: Single process coloring - anyone do it themselves?
Ever since I started coloring my hair 10 years ago, I've been getting it done in a salon.
Two months ago, I needed to do it and did NOT want to spend the usual 4+ hours I normally do. I no longer get highlights so I figured I would buy two boxes of dye at the drug store and try it out - if I messed it up, I would just go to the salon the next day.
Well, it was the best thing I did!!! I bought L'Oreal Superior Preference (FYI, it's on sale this week at Rite Aid) and I was really happy with how it came out. It was even less brassy than when I get it done "professionally". I will be doing it again very soon and I hope it comes out as good as before. It was the best $20 I spent ANDDDDD I saved a TON of time and did it in the comfort of my home.
Oh, and the dye I bought didn't burn my scalp like the one I always get at the salon.
Try it! Good luck!

I use Loreal Feria.. It's got a little oil thing in it that you put in the color so it doesn't smell as bad and it doesn't burn my scalp at all

Feria is good too! I have used that when I went blonde.

Re: Single process coloring - anyone do it themselves?
I buy professional color and do it myself. I try very hard not to miss spots and I try not to pull the color through to the ends every time as that can damage the hair. I would have a lot of trouble finding time to have it done at a salon. Sometimes I pay a friend who is a hairdresser to do it.

I color all the time at home to cover gray, I've only had it done professionally once or twice and wasn't overly impressed, the results were just as good at home!
My favorites are Feria and L'Oreal Excellence. I'm just covering gray, so I choose a color to match my natural hair color. Sometimes I also buy Clairol Root Touch Up kit to just do a little root job, the little brush applicator it comes with works so well.
I would never get my hair done regularly at a salon unless I got highlights (which on my nearly-black hair is never going to happen anyway), it is so convenient and cheap to do single process at home.
