My MIL came over today and suggested I register for a single stroller. is there ever a time where you had to take one separate from the other while grandma is babysitting one?

Single stroller question.....

My girls are 15 months old now, I stared with a double snap n go. Now I use single strollers a lot because they are faster to use and I usually only go out with a second person. They are light weight, easy to maneuver in smaller stores and quicker for each person to open and pop a baby in. If I am going shopping I'm always with someone else and we have two shopping carts.

However having said that, I have two cheap umbrella strollers (like $30 at BRU) and I wish I got better ones. They don't recline so the babies can't lay back if they fall asleep, I can't change their diapers in them like I can in my side by side. The canopy is useless for blocking out sun. It has minimal storage, and if you have a heavy diaper bag or packages to hang off the back of the stroller you have to keep your hands on it or the stroller can easily fall backwards. I developed carpel tunnel during my pregnancy and it never went away. I am 5'5" and the height of the handles are too low so for whatever reason my hands and arms go numb. I really need a higher, adjustable handle for my strollers. So you might want to consider that too.

I don't think there is such a thing as the "perfect stroller" I have a bumble ride indie twin (side by side) and it is awesome for the big outings like to the zoo or for walks around the neighborhood etc. It handles like a dream and you can move it around with one finger. The canopy is fabulous. But it's a pain to fold up and very heavy. It is a hassle getting it in and out of my truck because I have to lift it so high. I love using it and it is great for longer outings, but for quick stuff I would rather have something light weight and simple.

I opted for side by side over inline because my sister (who has 10 year old twins) had problems with the inline with hair pulling and head slapping. Plus the back twin would get bored because she couldn't see. As they got older they would fight for who got the front. I do think the inline would be easier to navigate in tighter spots though. I am considering getting a stadium seat type inline double stroller if I can find one. (Stadium seats are higher in the back than in the front). But again I think pretty much all double strollers are heavy and bulky.

I ultimately plan to have one of each, (side by side, in line and single strollers). I will wait for a great sale or find some great condition used ones.

Re: Single stroller question.....

Get the cheap $20 umbrella strollers.
DH and I took the twins to a Yankee game and it was easier to us to each push 1 of the kids. There will be other situations like that, where the double is just too big.

We rarely take only 1 child out. Really only when H. had surgery and/or follow up appts with doctors.

Re: Single stroller question.....

Wow, thank you sooooooooo muchChat Icon Chat Icon My friends with singletons said I'd end up with many strollers and I thought they were nuts. I guess they were right. Ok so far:

2 infant seats for Snap n Go
1 City Mini Double GT

should I register for 1 or 2 cheapies like umbrellas that will recline?

Re: Single stroller question.....

I bought an umbrella stroller (went in with my sister who lives in florida)
I often take one baby out or sometimes I used the single stroller and a baby in the ergo carrier especially to the dr where they really didn't allow strollers.
So I say buy an expensive one I don't think it needs to recline.

Re: Single stroller question.....

I know a lot of people recommended this to us. Even for if DH and I want so split up at a store and each take one. My cousin (a twin mom) just gave me her single snap n go strollers and we will probably get cheap umbrellas when they are older.

Re: Single stroller question.....

my situation was/is very different because my babies were born 3 mths early and DS has so many medical complications that DD was home for almost 6 months before he came home and even now he is difficult to take out and has private nursing care 16 hrs a day. If I need to run errands I typically take DD out alone so a single stroller is a must. Or, when the nurse and I take DS to doctor appointments and I have a babysitter for DD I use the single stroller as well.

we had registered for the double snap & go and then the city mini double. When DD came home from the NICU first and we knew it would be awhile for DS, we went out and bought the single snap & go. Then, DS was transferred to a rehab hospital and they required a stroller be left in his room for emergency purposes so we went out and got a second single snap and go. We actually returned the double snap & go because once he came home we just used the 2 separate strollers if we needed to take them both out. Now they are bigger, so if we take them both out we use the city-mini double. I went out and bought the Britax B-Agile single stroller since, like I said, I do take one at a time out quite a bit.

Obviously I have a unique situation, but I still think having a single stroller as a back up is a good idea under "normal" twin circumstances. There may be days where you want to take one out and leave the other with DH. Or whatever. You can probably just register for something inexpensive, but I think it's definitely a good idea to have..

Re: Single stroller question.....

Well, my girls are 16 months and so far in their lives I have only taken 1 out without her siblings once in her life when she was about 6 months old. It was to the pediatrician because she had a 104 fever. It was disgusting out so I left DS and her twin sister home with DH.

I carried her into the peds office.

I do have a single stroller that I kept from DS so if needed I could use it. But the situation has not presented itself thus far.

Re: Single stroller question.....

I already have a single stoller for my DS and but am not planning on buying another single. I'm sure there will be times when I have one in the stoller and one in the carrier but will probably have bags or my other child in the second seat. I can't imagine going out with two singles rather then keeping the double in my trunk. I guess there are instances but IMO not enough to purchase or register for two singles.
