Singulair?
Anyone have a DC who is under a year of age and on Singulair? Or, does anyone have a DC on Singulair (regardless of age)? We just took DS to an allergist. He was admitted to Schneiders Children's Hospital over the summer for almost a week for wheezing. He was put on nebulizer treatments and steroids. Turns out he contracted the RSV virus (even though it was out of season) which developed into bronchiolitis.
Now, every time DS gets a cold it seems to travel into his lungs. Instead of getting gradually better like most colds do, his colds seem to get gradually worse. He was on nebulizer treatments/steroids again a few weeks ago.
Our pediatric group as well as this pediatric allergist are not calling it asthma yet, and hopefully it's not. However, given DS's history, the allergist gave us a script for Singulair as a preventative measure. They say it is "safe", but I worry about putting DS on a medication for an extended period of time (the doc said through the winter season). DS is almost 10 months old. He just seems a little young for this. I'm not sure what to do.
DS was also allergy tested so we ruled out other allergies as well.
ETA: DS is in daycare, so I know he will be exposed to a lot. I just worry about his next cold given his history.

Re: Singulair?
I was just told a horrible story about a child on singulair-
My only advice is for you to do alot of research on the medication- and make sure the correct dosage is administered...
After reading up on it, if you feel your child needs it and you feel its safe then take it from there...

Re: Singulair?
Bella was put on Singulair in the spring at 16-17 months due to the fact that the ped diagnosed her with environmental allergies after she had a drip that caused a cough for over a month...(he had us try Singulair first before hitting the allergist)
It works amazing I must say...we used it the whole spring season (and I was nervous about giving her drugs for too long, but as soon as I stopped she went right back downhill)
We started giving it to her again a few weeks ago and I will continue for a few more weeks, when I know that fall allergies have passed. It's funny that as soon as I had a sinus headache, her nose started running and she had a cough....
My doc is more conservative about medicinal use, so I am comfortable with this...it is a big difference.

Re: Singulair?
My DD was on singulair although the was older(4-5yrs) In an 12 month period she had either bronchitis or pneumonia 11 times. She was tested for allergies twice put on the nebulizer at home for a while and never really improved. Our Pulminologist(sp?) noticed that she had a chronic post nasal drip. He sent us for a sinus scan and to the ENT. Turns out she had chronically infected adenoids that did not respond to 11 months of antibiotics. She had them removed and is a new kid. It was a long few years from Dr. to Dr., but I learned that you need to speak up and follow your heart. Do not give up. P.S. our first allergist said she had asthma and put her on inhaler's and steriods. I knew he was wrong and I stopped her meds and went elswhere. She NEVER had asthma!
