sinusitis - have you had it ?
what do you do / have you done to treat it. Did you doctor prescribe antibiotics? I went to my internist yesterday, he wouldn't give me antibiotics , he gave me a note saying "research shows that antibiotics are of minimal if any benefit" to treat sinusitis. and it has list of things I can do to treat this, but I feel so much worse tonight. I feel like I should call him and get him to give me antibiotics....

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
sinusitis isnt an infection per say. its a crazy stupid inflammation of the sinus cavities. i have chronic and what helps is tons of hot showers, saline nasal sprays and sudafed. have you been allergy tssted etc?
unless you have the very colored discharge, antibiotics wont help unfortunately.
hope you feel better

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
I would not rely on your internist for the sinuses. i would definitely go see a good ENT. SInus problems are nothing to mess around with. I had no sinus problems ever before - had one infection and let it go to long thinking it would go away and didn't even realize it was an infection and now i have big problems!

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
my sinuses are inflamed ALOT.... 1- I find that the neti pot helps alot I do it 2 times a day when I am bad. 2 - I am also highly allergic to dust, so I try not to do the dusting in the house and we actually just got a cleaning lady. 3 - The chiropractor was probably the best for it, your 2nd vertebrate is linked to your sinuses. 4 - oh Recently I started using an inversion table and that helps too!

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
I use this stuff nasal spray I get it at Vitamin Shoppe. It is a nasal spray with grapefruit seed extract. It is awesome. I use it when I start getting sinus headaches and it keeps me from getting a sinus infection. My pcp gave me antibiotics 3 months in a row and my "sinus infection" kept coming back. I found this stuff and starting using it. I used it 2 times a day for a week and was back to normal. Now I just use it when i feel I need it and haven't had to back to the doctor. I wish I had found this before using 3 rounds of antibiotics and steroids.

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
i just started going to the chiropractor for it as well and use the neti pot.
It can be an infection or it cannot be, its hard to tell. I only get antibiotics for it from my Dr when its really really really excrutiatingly bad.

See an ENT. It's also not good to be using over the counter steroid based sprays daily so they will tell you your best course of treatment.

Re: sinusitis - have you had it ?
Thank you so much everyone, I am in so much pain , yesterday it got bad and today is even worse, my nose, my eyes, my forehead everything hurts and it's very tender around my eyes .... I just bought a neti pot (spl) and used it 2x today. I have been taking ibuprofen and using decongestant. My dr also said to use antihistamine if it gets really bad , but I have such bad reaction to most meds , they make me so tired and sick, even the non drowsy ones. I'm afraid to take anything, plus I'm on beta blocker which already makes me very tired , so antihistamine will make it even worse I'll give it few days and then find an ENT dr. It's hard for me to go to drs unless it's on 2 days when DD is in school . Thanks again !

That's why I love the Nutribiotic. It is not a medicine. No steroids, no medicine, no dependency. It is just grapefruit seed extract and saline. I used to use GSE in my nasal rinse. The spray is just easier and no drowning feeling.

It may make you feel more stuffy at first but within the hour it will feel like someone flipped a switch. The pain and congestion will be gone. But be warned your nose will run as the mucous thins. If it is just swelling then you won't have to worry about a runny nose. You will just be able to breath.
