sippy cup question
I try to offer my dd a sippy cup every day to get her used to drinking out of one. She does not know how to tilt her head back to drink from it so I got her one with a straw that she can use. Is there anything wrong with a 8.5 month old using a straw type sippy cup. It says it was for 18+ months but this is the only one she knows how to use. I want to try to have her off the bottle by 12-15 months

Re: sippy cup question
Ryan was the same way. He didn't get the concept of tipping his head back. We gave him a straw sippy cup and eventually he figured out how to tip his head to drink. I think it's fine!

Re: sippy cup question
If it's working for your DD, I think it's fine. I imagine that the reason that they say over 18 months is that they assume before that age babies tilt the cup back like their bottle.

Re: sippy cup question
The ones with the straws are the only one my oldest will use. She's been using them since about your DD's age. It's only recently within the last month or two she finally learned to tilt her head back to drink. She's 19 months :)
I dont' think there's anything wrong with it, hey whatever works right :)

Re: sippy cup question
We tried DS on a sippy cup, but he never went for it. He started on the straw cups at around 1 year. DD started on the straw cups as soon as she was old enough to crawl over and steal DS's straw cups!

Re: sippy cup question
This is too funny. I actually bought the ones with the straw for Taylor yesterday (she is 9 mos). I have tried so many sippy cups and she doesn't seem to get anything out of them. I am going to try the new ones today and see how it goes. My neighbor's DS started using these when he was about 10 mos.

Re: sippy cup question
we always used the regular cup one and he drank here and there.
I picked up the straw cup and he downs it! I needed that since I don't want to introduce a bottle at 12 months old

That's pretty normal. They will get the hang of it. Just coach them and they'll get the hang of it!

Re: sippy cup question
ds won't take a bottle (ebf) so i started trying a straw sippy and he loves it. he was 6 months when we started. just make sure the straw is the softer ones so it doesn't hurt your dc's gums.
