SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
I just read one of SIRM's consent forms and it said that I could be under conscious sedation for the egg retrieval. However, I thought there is anesthesia for that procedure. I was completely knocked out at LIIVF for ER. Is SIRM different?

Re: SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
It is not general anesthesia, like if you were having your appendix out.
It's a heavy sedation. You have no idea what is going on, belive me, I just did it last week. They call it a "twlight" sedation, you are not consciously aware of anything.
The last thing I remember was the dr. telling me to picture a pretty beach and blue water, I know I made some kind of comment about Grand Cayman and 7 Mile Beach and that was the last thing. Apparently I did go on about it for about 30 seconds, but I don't remember.

Re: SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
Conscious sedation has fewer risks than being totally out and allows for a shorter recovery time till you can go home.
I had hand surgery under conscious sedation, could hear the doctors talking and music on radio but didn't feel them in my hand at all. I was kind of in and out of it over the 30 minute procedure. When it was time to go home an hour later I was fine and felt normal instead of a little groggy

Re: SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
You go into a nice deep sleep but only for 10-15 minutes. You don't feel a thing (or remember a thing!)
(but it's not like genereal anest when they have to put the breathing tube down your throat - I asked them this because that always freaks me out!)

Re: SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
I remember waking up from one of my IVFs and the anesthesiologist says, "Well, you certainly are a mouth-breather, aren't you?" Ugh, I was so embarrassed. Yeah lady, I snore!

Re: SIRM ER? Are you knocked out?
I loved my ER at SIRM!
I also have to be put under for Tx because I have a "deep uterus"...
Which stinks because it's all outof pocket and the anasthesiologist's fees are additional...
