Sit still activity for 13-month old??

My friend's DS is having a heart surgery next week Chat Icon Can you think of any activities she can do with him to keep him still and entertained during his stay in the hospital? He'll obviously be hooked up to a lot of machines and IV so she needs something that will keep him happy for the week.

Mini DVD player? Not sure what can really capture a 13 mth old's attention that long.

ETA - I didnt realize the child was the patient. Let me think about it more.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a portable DVD player with all his favorite DVDs. Other than that, we brought his favorite books, toys, a travel doodle... I would say things you can definitely clean. Wouldn't want to bring any unwanted germs home. Depending on which Hospital he'll be in, there may be a "child life". The hospitals we've been in had a playroom with crafts, toys, etc. They may want to call ahead and find out. If they do, they usually let you borrow different stuff (so he won't get bored). They even had some gaming systems to borrow.

ETA: we also brought our ipod

YES they have a child life! Some days they even have therapy dogs visit, a music therapist, bingo (participate from TV), etc. We recently spent a month there on med3 (3rd floor) and child life definitely made our stay there more bearable.

If they are there for an extended period of time, there's a Ronald McDonald house next door. Having that place for DH to sleep and for me to get away was a life saver! I was so happy someone pointed that out to me.
