Sitters - where to find, recommendations?
Everywhere we turn someone is saying "oh my daughter babysits" or "hey if you need a sitter..." blah blah blah. When you actually try to take them up on their offers there's always a catch, or the sitter is unavailable. So annoying. Don't offer if you don't mean it!!
So, I'm interested in finding a reliable sitter that I can call on for the rare occasion when DH and I want to go out for an evening. Most importantly, I want someone with a CAR, or their own means of transportation. I would like to find ONE person so that we have a regular that we can trust.
The funny thing about it is that baby sitting for Jake would be the easiest job in the world. He's down for the night at 7pm and that's when we would go out so the sitter would have to do nothing but sit there and watch TV with the monitor on *just in case* he wakes up.
Any recommendations or suggestions where to look? (Besides 4sitters.com - I don't want to pay to register there.)

Library or call your Red Cross Office and find out where in your area they offer their babysitting and infant CPR class (but the girls may not drive.. our girls get dropped off and then we take them home) We liked picking a 14-15yo now because she will grow up with the baby and hopefully feel like part of the family and stick with us and be around till college.
Or you could try your local HS and asked if they have any students who need NHS hours.

Re: Sitters - where to find, recommendations?
I would do it.
My mom has daycare and been doing it for 20yrs plus. I have been around kids all my life, have babysat for years and well, cant wait to have my own one day soon. I currently just quit my p/t nite position and w/FH as a police officer I find myself home fri and sat nites at times alone.
Posting at colleges might help. they are older and own a vehicle and look to make some extra $$.

Libraries, nearby colleges, local high schools are all good bets. You can ask if you can post sometime on a bulletin board...also you can try craigslist.
The library has those certification courses but it seems to be for younger kids. I would still ask. Another option is to find the daycare nearest you & ask if they sit at night. Most of the teachers in my kids' daycare babysit.

Don't say it unless you mean it because I *will* take you up on it! I'm going to FM you sometime soon!
Thanks girls, keep the ideas coming. I'm a little wary of posting at high schools because most of them don't have cars. But colleges is a good idea.... library... gotta try those.

Def try colleges - especially in the education department if they have one. That's where I got my babysitting job in college
