Situation I've been thinking about from the beach today..
Christopher, Katie and I were at the beach today, it was a Sound beach, so it was rocky and the water was very calm.
Christopher and I were sitting by the water, I was reading and he was playing by himself. This little girl (probably about a year older than him) kept running up to him, but not PLAYING with him, just mimicking what he was doing...she'd talk to me and I'd react and go back to my book..then the mother goes-
"Oh DD, leave them alone, they obviously are anti-social"
Huh? 
Christopher didn't want to play with her, but she wasn't PLAYING with him either...
I ignored it, but she said it so I could hear it...
Do you feel like DC should play with other kids all the time?

What a crazy lady! 
It's one thing to say something like "leave them alone" and leave it at that... but to take it a step further and tell her DD that you are anti-social.   That's really strange to me.
Even if she was trying to play with DS and he wasn't reciprocating... why say something like that? Who does that?

I would say something just bc of the sheer RUDENESS of the comment alone. I would never had said that ... if anything I would say 'hunny, the boy doesn't want to play'
but anti social is SO STRONG... and I highly doubt the kid knows what that means!!!!

Oh man TBH it's so cuckoo and so RANDOM I wouldn't even get annoyed, it would just get the GINORMO  from me. But I'd make sure I did it really OVERTLY so she could see it.
C3 probably knew intuitively that they were weird

OH yeah, she said that for me, not her kid...
I mean, I get it, I've called Christopher off before too when a kid doesn't want to play with him, but there is no reason to be RUDE about it!

Very rude!!!
Laila doesn't play with every kid she crosses on the play ground or at the beach. They don't all want to play with her either. I chalk it up to the awkwardness of the age. I would never say something like that.

She sounds stupid and annoying
That being said, I do try to encourage Ava to say hello and be friendly if someone is clearly trying to get her attention. Sometimes kids need help in that area. They need to learn. That being said, I don't force her to play with other kids. I say my part, encourage her to engage and if she doesn't, oh well.

No, I don't think children should "have" to play with other children all of the time. Especially at that age they are really just figuring out friends and who they like, etc. I don't know how you kept your mouth shut...

For someone to make a comment like that they are just waiting for an arguement. It's best to ignore people lke that. Your child does not have to play with other kids all the time. It's okay if he just want to play by himself.
