Size 12 months, but baby almost 9 months - question

My DD has always been a size above her age. So at 3 months she was in 6 month clothes, etc.

All had been fine... then here she is almost 9 months and her size 9 months are tight so we have some 12 month size clothes now. Length wise they're almost perfect... BUT they are TIGHT!!!! I'm not sure what happened here. I cant see putting her in size 18 months b/c they'll be too long. Something tells me the clothes makers assume a child in size 12 months is actually 12 months and therefore walking and such. Hence burning some of that chunky baby-fat. She rolls around and tries to crawl, but it's probably not enough. I say this b/c I noticed all of a sudden the sleepers have slip proof feet.

Anyone else have this? Also, any brands better than others at this stage for fit? I usually shop at mostly at BRU so I get her a lot of Carters, Koala Baby (which all seem to be tight), etc. Some of her Baby Gap 6-12 months still fit okay. Any other suggestions? Found Gap kids in manhsset to be a little limited in selection for her size range. I need everything from undershirt onsies (the plain white ones) to sleepers. It stinks b/c she's not old enough to take into a fitting room and I've heard you should wash everything before putting it on them... so I wash it, realize it's way too tight (Daycare removed her jeans the other day b/c they made her cry) and then I'm stuck with clothes I paid for and can't return b/c the tags are off and they've been washed and dried. I can think of better ways to use money other than on clothes that don't fit.

Thanks for help and suggestions.

We had that problem before DD started walking. I found that Carters' stuff was the best. DD also wore sweat pants alot for about a month.

DS is only 4 months yet he's the same size as your DD Chat Icon He's super-skinny but very tall... I've also been having issues finding clothes that fit him...

At any rate, since DS has the opposite problem, I can tell you that carter's fits my skinny boy just fine.... and children's place clothes (I bought 2 piece fleece outfits and jeans) are loose in the waistline... so maybe go there for her clothes?

Gymboree and Crazy 8 run big. Lasts well.
Koala runs small and shrinks horribly. Little me also is a bit small.
Ralph Lauren is true to size. Lasts well.
Guess runs true to size. Lasts well.
The lord and taylor brand runs true to size.
Baby Gap runs big but not super big. Lasts really well.
Carters runs long in the legs but average in the waste. Lasts well.
Green Dog runs average in the waste but short in the legs.
OshKosh runs big everywhere.

ETA: I try everything on DS before he wears them. I try it on at home. Piece by peice on different days otherwise he would have a melt down. I leave the tags on. What fits I keep, and what I think will fit in the future I keep. What does not fit can then be returned. I try the clothing on quickly. I think it is ok after they are 12 weeks old. Before then he was mostly in stretchies anyway and those were always washed before he wore them. HTH

I find Carters to run big...you can also go to Target and get their Circo brand it is very inexpensive (like $3-$4 a piece) and washes and wears well.

I do have to say that you don't have to wash everything before DC wears it. SUre, as NBs, but once they are out and about, the point of it becomes moot.

Every baby is different. I gave birth to a toddler. He was in 6-9 month clothes when he came home from the hospital. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I found that Carters undershirts, and many of their onesies and sleepers, are great because they stretch.

Gerber is ridiculously small!

I found the best onesies at The Carter outlet at Tanger and Baby Gap at Tanger. Other Baby Gaps don't seem to carry many onesies.

I always bring clothes home and have him try them on before I wash it. I figure the 2 seconds he is in clothes to try them on is worth it, just in case I have to bring them back.

Wow, what a great run down of the popular brands... I will stay away from Koala... I'm glad at least it's not just me (or DD). I was surprised when things were tight in the waiste like that, but now I'm realizing it's the brands. I like stuff that lasts. With #2 on the way every little bit helps... especially if #2 is a boy and I have to re-buy clothes rather than pass down #1's.

Thank you again for this and I've had the same experiences as others with Gerber... she got some onsies when I first had her... I swore they were for her dolls not her Chat Icon And shrinkage! I think it's time to use BRU for some carters stuff, diapers and the like, but branch out a bit on the clothes. Thanks again!
