Re: SKEW!!!
thanks SO much for thinking of us. regi FM'ed me for an update so i am going to paste the FM i sent to her here.
any advise is GREATLY appreciated.
_______
well it has been QUTITE an experience. after picking him up yesterday he pooped and peed in the car. my fault for not letting him go at the drop off. they kinda were pressing me to take him and the area wasn't really condusive. i was able to clean up the poop by climbing in the back, LOL! (i have an SUV). i was nervous about opening the doors in fear that he would bolt. i ended up leaving the pee and cleaned it up once we got home.
the meeting w/ jackson went well. i left chance in the car w/ the windows open and let jackson out. he (jackson) seemed very excited. i then brought jackson in the back and then chance. they instantly started playing w/ one another. because chance is still young (2) and jackson (6) chance did not want to stop playing and it got a little agressive. he did back down however when jackson "told him off".
we stayed outside for quite a while and chance pooped 2x. total random spots (on grass then on patio). i then let him inside (kitchen area only as i gated everything else off). after about a minute he peed on the floor (and i mean it was a gsuher). i brought him outside immediately and then cleaned it up. we ended the day by going to the dog park. they were GREAT in the car. at the park i let jackson roam and play off leash and chance explore on leash. he is VERY firendly and wants to do nothing but play (people and dogs).
he slept in the crate last night and i let him out around 9 and then again at 3am. he didn't go either time but also did not go in the crate.
it is going to be QUITE a challenge as he knows NOTHING. the lady in LA (where he was rescused) said that he isn't misbehaving, he just doesn't know any better.
the one thing that IS worrying me is that he is mouthy. sometimes when i pet him, he snaps his head back w/ an open mouth. i did want to see what he would do and although he doesn't bite, you can definetly feel the pressure of his teeth. i am REALLY going to have to watch this as i have 2 young nephews that visit often.

Re: SKEW!!!
I am glad that it went (relatively) well. Aside form the gusher & a few little accidents it sounds like it was great!
As far as the nipping is concerned, I am not quite sure how to handle this with a foster. Normally I'd say establish yourself as the Alpha, but then you will be giving the dog to another home, so I am not sure if that will work. Maybe keep a small can with dimes & pennies in it & distract him when he goes to nip? I am not sure if noises were part of his past, so that may not be ideal.

Re: SKEW!!!
thanks. he is NOT at all bothered by noises but seems somewhat apprehensive to walk on dirt. ???? i am easing him into this as i have a woody area in the back (fenced) where i want him to go potty. now he prefers the patio.
i have been using a squirt bottle w/ a firm NO to deter some behaviors and it has been working well. is this mean?

No. I don't think it is mean. YOu can also use a can of pennies and shake them by his head.

We use the spray bottle on Bailey when his barking is out of control for no reason except to be bratty!

Re: SKEW!!!
the penny can didn't work for Gus, but the water gun works wonders...so you'll have to use whatever works for chance....for the nipping..
I can't wait for Gus and Chance and Jackson to meet up and play!
