skin lupus

Is anyone familiar with this? My SIL was just diagnosed with this and she has had to deal with so much this year! Its just not fair to her!

My MIL has lupus that primarily affects her skin. I think she was diagnosed about 20 years ago. She has to stay out of the sun completely - hard because she lives in Southern California! If she misses a spot with her sunscreen before she goes out shopping or something, she gets a terrible rash. But she manages just fine on a daily basis and does not take any medication. She's had it for 20 years now, and has had problems with her joints lately that are more of an issue - she's needed 2 knee replacements in the last 7 years.

I'm sorry about your SIL's diagnosis, but there is such a wide variety of symptoms and severity with this disease, it's really hard to compare one person's experience to another. I hope she manages well with it.
