Skin tags -- their removal is not covered by insurance?
OK, way TMI here, but I posted a few weeks ago about having a skin tag/tab on my nipple. My midwife wants it removed ASAP by a dermatologist so it will heal in time for the baby's arrival and before I start nursing/pumping. I called my derm this morning and they're saying this is considered a cosmetic procedure and insurance won't cover it. I'm going to have it removed next week anyway, then try to fight the insurance company -- but how can it NOT be covered if it's in such a 'ahem' sensitive area??

Can you get your midwife to say that it's necessary to have it removed in order to breastfeed?

It might depend on your insurance cause mine covered the removal of one I had on my eyelid

DD#2 has one on her ear. My ped said the insurance may or may not cover the removal, but if it was getting stuck on clothes and stuff and causing an issue then they could push for it being covered by insurance.
Maybe if you get them to say it's for medical reasons (being able to BF, getting caught on bra...etc)

UPDATE - my dermatologist's office (whom I normally LOVE) seems to have messed up because they automatically said it wouldn't be covered, but my midwife has vowed to fight it and then I called my insurance company and they said they don't even know if they cover it until a clinician/doc does the diagnoses of whether it's medically necessary (which my midwife said she'd do).
BUT, doesn't matter now because the tag removed itself. Sorry for the TMI.
