Sleep apnea and pregnancy...
Is anyone else suffering from this? I've noticed this over the past few weeks, especially if I take a nap when I come home from work. I wake up gasping for air and it totally freaks me out. I looked up some information on it and apparently it's more common in pregnancy than I thought. I'm actually panicking right now because I don't want to do any harm to my baby or to myself. I have been trying to sleep on my side and I guess I'll use one of those nose strips tonight. I'll ask my OB more about it when I see him tomorrow. Do you think I should see an ENT doctor as well? Has anyone else used a technique that may have helped them?
ETA - In my case it does not seem to be a weight issue from pegnancy because I really haven't gained that much weight and was petite to begin with. I read on a babycenter.com article it is more related to the increase of hormones that causes the nasal passages to swell, etc.

I cant help from the prgnancy perspective, but a friend of mine had it and he finally went to a sleep center and uses a machine that regulates his breathing. He said he never knew what sleep was like until he got this thing. Maybe talk to your OB about it and see if there is a need for you to get tested or use a machine until after baby is born

Re: Sleep apnea and pregnancy...
I started in my 2nd trimester. It scares the hell out off me sometimes. Dh also complains because I now snore. I'm hoping it goes away after I have the baby.

Is there anything that has worked for you to help this problem? I think this started in my second trimester as well. I also snore more often than usual. I'm with you on the scary part - waking up gasping for air is not a fun feeling.

Thanks! I'll ask my OB about that when I see him tomorrow. I'm kind-of hoping I can bypass the whole sleep study thing and they can just provide me with some kind of treatment.
