SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
DS just will not sleep! I'm up every 2 hours... sometimes even less. He is 5 months old... EBF...refuses a pacifier...loves to be swaddled, but my ped told me to stop since he rolls now. We still have him in the pack and play next to me... but lately he is ending up in our bed. When he wakes, its because he wants my boob...but only for a second just to fall back asleep... or he wakes from flailing his arms and legs because he is not used to it. I've tried not giving him my breast...I've tried just rocking him...none of it works! I seriously am exhausted. We are up everyday at 7am no matter what because of my 3 year old DD. I'm starting to get anxiety during the day, I think its due to sleep deprivation. I need some suggestions! I should also say that my 3 year old STILL refuses to sleep in her bed and is in ours. So obviously I CANNOT make the same mistake again and yet I find myself doing so in order to get some sleep. 4 in the bed is JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE! She's gotta go too... but that's just another story. HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
im sorry you're going through this. do you have a crib in another room? you may want to start transitioning. with the swaddling...did you do it cold turkey? she may still need the warmth and closeness. have u tried a sleepsack? or just swaddle the body and leave the arms out? does she take a pacifier?

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
Stop swaddling for naps as a way to transition to no swaddling at night. BTW, my baby was a great sleeper until about 4.5 months and everything got messed up. I had to do CIO for the pacifier. It took 24 hours but now she doesn't expect the pacifier. She does wake up once during the night for food though.

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
To answer the questions: Yes...he has his own crib in his own room. I was waiting for the weather to get cooler because there is no airconditioner. So I'm thinking we can start transitioning into there now that its cooler. He never uses a swaddle except for nighttime sleep. I'm going to buy a sleep sack...good idea! Yes, we stopped cold turkey swaddling by the way. No, he won't take a pacifier.

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
I could have wrote the same thing. She just keeps waking but falls back asleep. I have stopped feeding her at night. I am hoping that once I start feeding her cereal she sleeps better.
Does he sleep late into the morning? I think thats part of my DD problem. She wakes throughout the night but then sleep in until 10 ish.

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
If he's not hungry when he wakes (as in nurses to put himself back to sleep) then he may be ready for sleep training, which will be easier once he's in his own room. I know he's young, but have you thought about doing Ferber?

I honestly think he would sleep later...but Ash wakes us both up like clockwork at 7am!!

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
I could have written this myself as well. DS refuses the pacifier and needs the boob to go back to sleep. He is up every 3 hours at night and I give in to him with the boob because i have to work in the morning and I am exhausted myself. It is a terrible cycle. The only difference is that my DS is in the swing in my room. He goes crazy if I put him in the PNP or his crib. I just cacn't bear to hear him cry. I need to do CIO but am dreading because the screaming and crying kills me. Good luck!

Ped suggested the same thing.... I just don't know if I have it in me...lol... but I'm getting pretty desperate.

Thats funny you mention the swing,... because I am about to move it into my room.... he sleeps great there for his naps!! LOL but I know that would just create a new issue.

Re: SLEEP HELP NEEDED DESPERATELY! LONG
We are in the same boat! I posted about this on Friday. DS was waking up 3-4 times a night and I was exhausted, he wasnt waking to eat he was just waking for comfort. Do you rock him to sleep at night? I did and I read that is the worst thing. Firday night i started sleep training(ferber method) and it has been great all weekend. I decided to put DS in the crib awake, but sleepy. He whined and evenutally fell asleep. In the middle of the night he woke up a few times the first night i waited 7 mins the first time went upstairs put the paci in his mouth and rubbed is head, stayed for a minute went back down stairs he cried for another 3 mins and feel asleep. We did this all weekend and he has been sleeping 11+ hours each night. I am no expert but this weekend I got amazing sleep and I feel like a new woman! IF you want FM me!

DS slept in the swing or his inclined rocker 100% of the time until he was 4 months old. At that point, I moved him cold turkey into the crib. I would put him in it asleep and when he woke up in the middle of the night to eat, he usually would NOT go back in the crib. So I bought a small portable swing (LOVE IT) that I put next to the crib. The nights he wouldn't go back into the crib (in the middle of the night), we put him in the swing. But we would always try the crib first. We would put the swing on a timer, 1 hour. After a few weeks, he would go into the crib more and more often and by about 5.5 months, we had stopped using the swing altogether for sleeping.
DS was also the same exact way - he needed the boob to soothe himself back to sleep - he would wake and that was the ONLY way to get him back to sleep. DH started helping out in the middle of the night by offering a bottle (he would only take maybe an ounce) and rocking him/holding him to get him back to sleep. At just over 6 months old, we had to do CIO. It was hard, but only the first night was bad and it was definitely worth it.
Good luck! Definitely try a sleep sack. Try a sound machine at a very loud setting. When he wakes in the middle of the night, don't speak to him, sing to him, etc. Don't turn on the lights. These are all things I started doing with DS and he honestly started sleeping better. We also started a night routine which helped a lot.
