sleep number bed
which model/height do you have? do you like it? was it very expensive? are there any negatives to owning this bed?
whenever i go mattress shopping, i never really feel a difference between them. its kind of like shoes. they're so comfortable in the store then when i get home they start hurting...

I don't know why, but DH and I tried the sleep number, and I couldn't tell any difference. Mary

Re: sleep number bed
We've had ours for 5 (?) years now and love it. I don't remember which model we have -- I think it might be the cheapest one.
I highly recommend going to a Select Comfort store and having the salespeople show you how to find the right number -- even then, you'll probably need to adjust it up or down a little for the first week or so.

When i got it and assembled it i was utterly shocked. Literally it is an air mattress with a 1" padding over it!!! I paid over $1,000 for a full sized. It is a glorified air mattress!!
The # thing is just basically inflating or deflating the matress, very disappointing.

No sorry!!! I know it was a mid-range one. Im pretty sure they are all constructed that way though.
Honestly the "idea" sounds nice, making it softer or firmer, but in reality a person is not going to like a soft bed one night and a hard bed the next. Lets say a person likes a firm mattress they are going to put the bed around 75-80 and leave it, your not gonna be playing with it all night/everynight. I would just go out and buy a normal medium-firm mattress (or whichever you like).
Again... If I went to bed bath and beyond, bought an air mattress and then put a 1" padding over it, you would have the same thing as the Sleep Number Bed!!! BUt it would cost you about $200 instead of $1,000+++. And if you wanted it softer just let some air out!!!
In the end its your decision though.

Re: sleep number bed
Our sleep number bed is one of my biggest purchase regrets. It was so expensive and I never really got comfortable in it. It's now in our guest room. Our guests really love it though... so I'm not sure what I'm missing. lol

Re: sleep number bed
We've had ours about 5 years and are replacing it this spring.
WE HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!
Like another poster pointed out, it's a glorified air mattress. It's sensitive to temperature changes, so when our room gets too warm it deflates more. DH and I have the same number and it causes us to roll into each other. This is for a queen, I know people with Kings say this isn't as big a problem.
It was, however, great when I was pregnant because I could make it rock hard.
The remote chews through batteries too.
