Sleep Positioners?
What are your thoughts on them? I registered for one and didnt think twice about it- but then I was watching the Today show a few weeks that said you shouldnt use one because of the increase in the risk of sids.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
Our childbirth instructor and everything I've read says they are bad for the baby. I was told the only exception should be a wedge if the baby has reflux.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
We didn't register for one and don't plan on using one for this reason, we've heard the same thing. But, I know lots and lots and lots of people use them safely & effectively w/o any problems, so it's another one of those things that everyone has an opinion about. If for some reason we feel like we need to try it once DD is here and not sleeping, etc., we'll try one.

I never used it with my son because of the risk of SIDS.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
WASTE of money, IMO. We had 2 of them and barely used them b/c the babies slid in between the foam positioners.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
We are not going to use it. We were advised to sleep the baby in the infant seat if AR is a problem.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
someone gave us one at the shower. i will NOT be using it. considering we're not supposed to even use a blanket on them, i don't see how a "hard" slightly immovable object that close to them could be safe.

Re: Sleep Positioners?
What is the reason why these are considered dangerous for SIDS?
I had never even thought of registering for one but when I was at buy buy baby I ran into a girl who is a resident in pediatrics and she was registering for one to use in the bassinett and said that all the other doctor's used them for their babies as well for safety to keep the baby on its back and something about the head as well. I really haven't done any research into this but I put it on my registry because of this but if there is a reason they are dangerous - I will probably ask the dr. before using it. It does seem strange though that she would have been registering for it though because I would think they would know...

Re: Sleep Positioners?
I thought the incline positioners were related to SIDS - not the wedges. I have to research this now because I was told by a friend (whose sister lost a baby to SIDS) that the wedge is recommended to prevent the babies from rolling over and smothering themselves
