Sleep question and nighttime feedings question

DS is 6 months and the doctor told us to stop the middle of the night feedings...fine, I knew we should be doing that anyway.

But, after how many hours of sleeping is it okay to feed him...if he goes to bed at 9 and wakes up at 5 do I feed him since he's slept for 8 hours?

Is there a guideline for this because of course I forgot to ask the doctor while I was there.

DS is 6 1/2 months, he goes in at 7:30-8:30. IF he wakes up, I dont feed him, he goes back down and then wakes anywhere between 5-6:30, when we get up he will have a bottle.
