Sleeping at night question

DS is 2 months and he seems to be consistent at night:

Wind down at 7pm (start bath)
Sleep by 8/8:30
Up at 1:30 (bottle)
Up at 5:30/6

So basically he sleeps well but doesn't sleep through the night. Sometimes he gets up at 3am instead of 1am but not always.

How do we get him to sleep through the night? Waking up at 6 is fine but the 1am is what I want to get rid of - if possible.

Here is racheeeee's first lesson of parenthood.

One can not make the child sleep if the child doesn't want to sleep.

Re: Sleeping at night question

Honestly I think the 1-3 am feeding will go away with time. When DS was a few weeks younger he would have a wake up anywhere from 2-4 am.

Starting 2 weeks ago (at 10 weeks old) he started winding down at 8 pm and has been getting up only b/t 6-8 am for a bottle

If he wakes up at 4 I reswaddle him and he is right back to sleep

We learned this the hard way in the beginning.

I don't want to complain...I feel like we have it pretty good with DS. At 8pm he is out and lately without any protests. Almost like he welcomes it. But oh to get rid of the 1am wake up...guess I'll just keep it on the wish list.

my dd was doing this for while and then slowly, she was waking up later and later (3am, 4am). The past 2 nights, she slept until 7am...I think just give it some time, there is not much you can do to "make" him not wake up Chat Icon

Okay - I feel better now too. I will let the little prince continue on his own and we'll see what happens.

Thanks!!!!

YUP.

Many kids don't sleep that long until 6 months old.

BTW: "sleep through the night" is really defined as 5-6 hours of continuous sleep, not 12 hours, so he actually is.

At the rate that he is growing right now, he needs the feeding. He's still considered a newborn.

My kids are 4 months and one week. They are going longer and longer and will sporadically sleep through some nights but it only started happening when they were about 15 lbs. They now "stir" around 3 am, that's when I fed them this morning to keep their daytime nap schedule consistent.

As much as people talk about their babies sleeping through the night early in their development, I know very few people IRL whose babies were sleeping through the night (12 hours) that early on.

i agree- still young enough and needing that feeding.....and ive said this a million times here- i, myself, was that same tired mom, complaining of waking up during the nite to nurse her, etc etc etc....i just wanted to sleep sleep sleep.....and now, DD is 13 months old, she has been sleeping thru the nite (930pm-930ish am) since 6 months old, and let me tell you.. i MISS MY GIRL! i miss her needing her mommy in those wee hours of the morning when id walk into her room with my eyes closed, feeling my way around....and if i could turn back the clock, i will do it all over again- those sleepless nites for what, 6 months? think of it this way- let DC be for 6 months, wake up with them, bear with it- it is only 6 months....it took me only a few weeks of sleeping thru the nite to realize, hey, i miss her needing me. its the benefit of having a newborn-getting all that cuddle time in at 3am.......
