Sleeping through the night....
How long did it take your DC to sleep through the night? Also.. Do you have any advice on how to help them do this? I go back to work in November & I would like my DC to be on a regular sleep schedule, but with me waking up 2+ times a night... it seems like there is no end in sight
Thanks!

Re: Sleeping through the night....
Your baby is not even a month old, 2x/night is not too bad!
For me, as both kids got a little older they started sleeping longer...
Just give it some time and see what happens first...
Some babies sleep thru before 3 months, some don't... around 5 or 6 months you can start sleep training methods like CIO/Ferber etc...

Re: Sleeping through the night....
1 year
And that is b/c DH and I finally got the balls to do CIO with him then b/c we figured he didn't take formula anymore, so there was no reason to give him anything at night when he worked.
ETA: Do NOT take this as a flame, but I had to do it too, I worked for 8 months where I was getting up minimum 2x per night, you just kind of deal with it.

Re: Sleeping through the night....
DD just started doing it on her own at 6 months. We were VERY shocked, especially since she was EBF.

Re: Sleeping through the night....
By 6 weeks Mattea was sleeping 6:30-7:30..sometimes she will wake up at 5:00 for a quick feed and will goes back to sleep..On teh mornings she wakes at 5:00 for a bottle..she will sleep until 8-8:45
From the time we came home..she was waking every 4 hours and then shortly every 6 hours and then every 8 hours and then poof..through the night!
He is still young and 2 times a night is GREAT!! I know some girls who have to wake every 2-3 hours...
Before you know it..Anthony will be sleeping through the night..

Re: Sleeping through the night....
Thomas didn't sleep through the night until 8 1/2 months.
He slept better on his belly and with paci. But I didn't put him on belly until he was old enough to roll back and forth himself.

Re: Sleeping through the night....
Not to scare you or anything, but DD is 9 months old, and last night she was awake and screaming from 1AM-3AM. Seems like CIO doesn't work in our house.

Re: Sleeping through the night....
Janie don't worry - it will happen! I was nervous about that too. I go back to work on the 25th. My biggest concern was getting him on some kind of regimine before I went back.
Nick is now 10 weeks and started sleeping from 10:30 until 6:30 about a week and a half ago. He's formula fed and I'm really dilligent about giving him his bottles on time. I also try and keep him as stimulated as possible during the hours that he is up.
I feed him every 3.5 hours during the day. Sometimes I can push him to 4 hours, but his threshold seems to be 3.5. I also have started our nightime ritual. PJ's go on (every other night he gets a bath). We read a little bit. He relaxes, then he gets his late bottle. He usually passes out after that bottle. I rock him for a few minutes then put him in the crib. So far so good.
FM me if you want and we can go over tips

Re: Sleeping through the night....
For us is was magic at 6 weeks. I will say, DD was always a good eater and I think it was just a matter of her being able to take in enough at the last bottle of the night to sustain her through the morning.

Same here, except I nurse. Charlie started sleeping 5-6hrs at 5wks. By 6-7wks she was sleeping through the night. Even dreamier, she puts herself to sleep for naps...haven't gotten brave enough to try that at night LOL (why mess with a good thing, right?). We still swaddle her...though we're going to have to swaddle with an arm or 2 out since she's a big sucker and I hear her moaning in the middle of the night as she wriggles her arm(s) free.
Give it some time...your child is still young.

Re: Sleeping through the night....
I assumed I'd be waking 1-2 times a night when I went back to work..........but thinnk I got VERY lucky a few weeks ago!
Logan started going about 6-7 hours at night at around 9 weeks old while away on vacation!
At about 10 weeks, he started 8-9 hours, by 10 1/2 weeks old he was sleeping 10 hours!!
Consistantly for 2 1/2 weeks now he sleeps about 10-10 1/2 hours a night!!
It could be many things that contribute to it.....I was not trying to get it to happen yet though. Some things I THINK helped might be: 1. I started to supplement w/ formula at 8 weeks (he gets about 12-16 ounces of formula a day mixed in with BM in his daytime bottles, I still nurse in the AM when he wakes & PM before bed)
2. When we were away, the fresh air all night with the open windows tricked him into sleeping We lived in a basement apt. for now with minimal windows, so the daylight woke him and the fresh night air made him sleep I think!!
There is help!
