Sleeping with blankets?

When can babies start sleeping with blankets? Kiera's been waking up during the night off and on for about 3 weeks now. I think part of it was because she was sick. And from what I understand it's also quite common for a 7 month old to go through this phase. Part of separation anxiety.

So one of the things I was wondering is when can she have a blanket to sleep with? She's sweats a lot in general but lately when she wakes up during the night I wonder if she's cold. I thought I'd give it a try if it's ok for her to have a blanket now. Thanks!

Re: Sleeping with blankets?

Samantha has had one since around 4 or 5 months. I usually cover her AFTER she falls asleep though

Re: Sleeping with blankets?

Claire has been using a blanket since about 2 months, it is a light blanket and I put it on her only after she has fallen asleep. And I never cover her arms since she moves them thru the night

Re: Sleeping with blankets?

I am unsure on what to do. Gianna is still in her bassinetChat Icon but I am scared when I move her into the crib (maybe this weekend) to cover her with a blanket. In the middle of the night she has the habit of throwing her feet up and I am scared she will cover her face with it and suffocate herselfChat Icon She is 4months I know I sound a bit freakish but I am nervous.

Me too, our apartment is like a tomb. We don't have central heating, just electric heaters. So Alex has had a blanket, I leave his arms exposed and tuck the blanket tightly into the sides of the crib.

Re: Sleeping with blankets?

I'm the chicken little of SIDS and suffocation but Amber has had a blanket since Day 1. For the first few months, I used something very thin and very lightweight. Through the winter, I used an afghan with pretty good sized holes throughout the pattern so that if she did put it over her head, she wouldn't suffocate. Now she uses a quilt someone made for her and she'll actually cover herself when she gets cold. I see her snuggling with her blankets all the time and it's very cute.

They have those bunting blankets that you put the arms through and it zippers up its like a fleece blanket but its light so it won't get wrapped up around the baby

I used this for a while but I also used a blaket as well from day one I would go back and forth with the two

I used the fleece sacks in the winter and just moved over to the Halo lightweight sleeveless sleep sacks for the warmer months. I love them and no blankets worries.

In the winter, Andrew always slept in PJ's with a Halo fleece sleepsack, with a blanket! The blanket was a crocheted one, so I was not concerned.

I think they suggest to tuck the blankets into the sides of the crib until the baby is able to roll over and pick their head up.

We gave a blanket to Kiera tonight so I'll see how she does. Thanks for the tip about the afghan. That does make me feel a lot better about it.

I have also always had my son tightly wrapped in a blanket when he was a baby and as the months went on he would just be covered at night when he went to bed. also to know if you baby is cld you will see then in there crib with there butt up in the air means they are chilly and are trying to snuggle just a hint lol
