Slow cooker question(s)
Does the meat have to be fully covered with liquid? Will there be a different texture throughout the meat if 1/4 of it is "braised" and the rest is "baked"? Will the meat be fully cooked if only the bottom of it is covered? Do you have to flip the meat once it is in there (if so, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of "set it and forget it"?)
Sorry, I am still new at this whole crock pot thing!

Re: Slow cooker question(s)
No the meat doesnt need to be completely covered...
Braised and Baked are about the same thing except one is a moist cooking method and baked is dry...Lesser quality meats should be braised to add moisture to the meat or they will be dry..so something that is braised and then baked will be dryer than something that is just braised..
No you dont have to flip the meat..
My mom is here right now and she is the queen of "Crockery Cooking" these answers came from her

Re: Slow cooker question(s)
definitely don't flip the meat... you're not supposed to take the cover off at all while cooking. nothing i've ever made in the crock pot was completely covered with the liquid... and it was all yummy as can be! speaking of which... my beef stew is almost done, so time to make the biscuts
