slow cooker-yay or nay
I went over a relative's house this weekend and I asked her how she has time to make dinner with a 3 year old and a newborn and she told me that the slow cooker is the best thing.
Since I also will be having a newborn and a toddler soon was wondering if I should buy one?
So my question-slow cooker yes get it or a waste of money?

Love mine! Even before the baby, with two working adults, it's a great way to have a hot dinner ready at night.
With kids, even if you're home, it's great, because you can prep the food whenever you have time (night before, in the am, whenever) and throw everything together and turn it on around lunchtime and BAM dinner is ready.
You can find them for around $30 if you don't want all the bells and whistles. Totally worth it, IMO.

Mine is Hamilton Beach. It's digital, I can set it for whatever amount of time I want and it automatically switches to warm when it's ready. I think it cost about $50 and we probably use it twice a week most weeks.

LOVE mine and I don't even have kids! But I work until 8 or 9pm two days a week, so it's great to have a fully home-cooked meal all ready when I get home.

Re: slow cooker-yay or nay
I just started using one, as a new mommy of 2, my MIL got me one as a gift. I can't wait to use it more.
Mine is a Crockpot brand one. It automatically switches to warm. It was like $35 at Kohls. If I really like it, I might invest in a better one, but for now, it's been great.
Any recommendations on websites or cookbooks to get?
Thanks!!

My slow cooker (crock pot brand) and pressure cooker are truly the two best kitchen gadgets I own.

Love mine!!!!! We don't have kids, but we both work full time and work late often. It's so nice to have dinner ready when you get home!
I had a kichenaid but the crock broke and I just got the 6.5 Crock Pot brand. Its amazing... so much better than the old one, I never realized how much the kitchenaid one dried everything out... definitely go with the Crockpot. I got it at kohl's, about $40 with coupons and free shipping!

Re: slow cooker-yay or nay
I love mine. I also buy the dry soups at Homegoods and add my own pizzaz to them... This week I bought a lentil bagged soup - just added water, chopped tomotoes, tomato paste and more water than recipe b/c of sodium. So great and I save $ instead of buying soup!!

Re: slow cooker-yay or nay
I have a 3yo and a 2yo and am a FTWM. I could not function without a slow cooker. And I just got a delayed start rice cooker and steamer for xmas and that has made me soo happy. I can prep everything in the morning and come home to a completely ready meal. It is a life saver. I don't get home until 7ish and there is no way I could cook every night at that time and still get my kids to bed at a decent hour. without the crockpot, I'd have to spend sunday cooking for the week and heat up meals. Dh hates heated up meals. and I get to enjoy sunday with my kids. I also use my crockpot to make soups on sundays for soup and sandwich lunches and i dont have to stay home while soup cooks--we can go out to a museum or run errands and come back to hot, fresh soup.
