i am a product of a small(er) SD and I really liked it. we chose the same size SD for DS
eta - it was nice that everyone knew everyone else. it was a tight knit community. you never felt "lost in the crowd"

I was at a small school district growing up... the positive is you don't get lost in a crowd. The big negative is you can't get away from a "bully".
I was very happy when I went to a BIG High School.

I grew up in a very large school district and barely knew anyone I graduated with. I was only friends with those that went to my elementary and were in my elementary classes. If I didn't know them, they didn't know me and that's the way it was.... I graduated with over 1000 people and probably only knew 100. It was terrible!
