Smartboards in the ELA classroom
I recently got a Smartboard in my classroom but no real training on how to use it or its capabilities. My district is pushing it big time in the Danielson rubric. Just wondering if anyone has any good ways that they integrate theirs or any ideas for ways to use it in a formal observation (novel unit). I'm at a loss...

Did they give you a document camera too? If so, you could use it to project whichever pages you'd like to focus on, underline and/or highlight important text features, record your lessons for absent students, pull up information about authors or topics you are studying in class to teach from the web, share student writing exemplars, rubrics, etc. Think about how you would want to make learning visual and use it in that way.
I've had a SMART Board for the last 7 years and can't fathom about teaching without it. Congrats- once you get the hang of it, you will love it.
If they installed Notebook 14, make sure you get their license key - they're charging for them now. :/

Just know that on the remote is a blank button. That causes the bulb to go off without turning off the entire system. Good to save energy. Also the freeze button freezes the page on the smart board but allows you to do somehting on your computer or laptop.
