It is REALLY yummy!! It may be a bit tight, but DO check about reservations! If they can do that....I would definately consider it!
An alternative would be Famous Daves BBQ....while definately more commercial....the BBQ there is REALLY good and the places are huge like a TGIFridays!

I prefer Tennessee Jack's in Islip... Not as chain type commerical as Famous Dave's and not as busy as Smokin Al's.

Just an FYI, they don't take reservations. DH went with a group of guys on a Saturday night and they had to wait FOREVER. The bar area is also in a congested and small area where the waitstaff is working so hanging out there on a crowded night can be rough. The food is amazing and the portions are HUGE!

Thanks, yea, I just called. I guess I'll go another night, without a group.

There is a bbq place in sayville, never been there but I heard it is good I would check that one out too. Smokin Als is always busy! Would only suggest it for early dinner or lunch.

It was BUSY last Wednesday. We went with friends and waited 40 minutes! But then again last week was a vacation week for a lot of people so maybe a regular weekday wouldn't be so bad.
The food was awesome, though. I am glad we waited. I had learned about it from some of my ESL students who worked there.

It's okay - I think Tennessee Jack's in Islip is much better. TJ's also has a lot more room so you can easily get your group in there. Hmmmm...I might have to have some tomorrow nite

Re: Smokin Al's in Bay Shore?
DH & I went last night. The wait was a bit over an hour but DH now places this right under Virgils in NYC in his ranking of BBQ places around here. He loved the servings (HUGE) and taste. Me, I had a burger as usual but mine was great too. We're going to try Tennessee Jack next.
