Smoking at outdoor restaurants

DH and I have been to 2 different restaurants in the past week that have an outdoor area for dining this time of year. both places had ashtrays on the tables outside and people were freely lighting up, even with kids around, at other tables Chat Icon

I thought that smoking was banned at restaurants and that you had to be a certain # of feet away from a building to smoke Chat Icon

Re: Smoking at outdoor restaurants

I wouldn't have a problem with restaurants that have smoking areas... BUT I don't like smoking. I wouldn't go to any restaurant that has a designated smoking area because I don't like the way it makes me smell and I don't like the idea of ashes anywhere near my food or my kids.

I did believe that smoking was not allowed in restaurants anymore though.. and I can't remember the last time I saw any place that allowed it.

I believe it's only banned from indoors, there's no rule against smoking outside unless it's posted by the individual establishment.

Yes, if it is outside it is ok. It is up to the owner.
