snow blowers
is it necessary to own one? We live in nassau and have a regular 60x100 plot. If so, what should I expect to spend and what type do you recommend? TIA!

Re: snow blowers
We don't have one. Only one guy on our block does and he's a douche and complains to Mike and my next door neighbor about how tiring it is blow snow. Meanwhile, they are both shoveling.
Anywho...they are talking about buying one to share this year. That way they will have more time to drink their beers while they are out there working. They seem to think they will spend about $200 each on one.

Re: snow blowers
I have a plow on my truck. Snow blowers involve being out in the snow, walking around in the snow, and getting cold and sweaty...
With the plow, I remote start the truck, get dressed, walk out to the truck, listen to the radio in the warm cabin, and drive in a circle, since I have a circular driveway....
I'd like to get a heated driveway eventually so it's even easier.... just flip a switch and it will melt on its own...

Re: snow blowers
We have the same size lot as you. IMO, if you own a home, you must have a snowblower. With all the snow we've had the last two year's we've been in our house, I'm so glad we do. Aside from the fact that DH is usually plowing so I'm stuck doing it.

Re: snow blowers
We have a 60x100 plot and DH just bought a snow blower. It was $700. After last year's snow falls he refuses to shovel this year. He was out there last winter for hours at a time; i couldn't help bc we had just had a baby. It was a big purchase but he loves it. He also plans to take care of our elderly neighbors sidewalk.
We are getting one for my dad too as a combo christmas/bday present. He's 66 and I don't want him shoveling anymore.
ETA: Toro makes good ones but pricey. I think ours is Troy Built. John Deere makes some too.

Re: snow blowers
Alot of our neighbors have them, My inlaws and Dad has one. Seems like if you own a home its defin worth it if your gonna use it Getting one with a powerful motor is important because the snow is so wet and heavy We don't have one, We have a company that does it.

Toro is definitely the best brand to get.

Re: snow blowers
DH bought a Toro the second we were in contract on our house (which was last August). I was originally pizzed about the amount of $$ he spent when we knew we needed a lot for the closing and renovations we watned to do. However, I quickly changed my mind when we got hit with that first snowstorm in early December!
I never even lifted a shovel when it snowed last year. DH blew out the driveway and walkway (we don't have sidewalks) each time the snow fell. It was totally worth it!
