Re: Snow map
A TON of schools are closed across Nassau and Suffolk. There's literally nothing outside my window ...did other areas get it that bad?

There's a light dusting on the grass by me, roads and walkways totally clear but we're closed. Was wondering if I was missing something . . .

What the heck?! I hadn't even thought to look but I figured it's probably mostly private schools and preschools. Why did so many districts close for a few inches predicted? This is really getting ridiculous.

Heavy snow is suppose to start later in the afternoon. I'm assuming they closed because driving after dismissal would be dangerous.

But that’s still not only potential for only NYC and WESTERN Nassau!

And they are only screwing themselves because these days aren't free. Once you hit your built in limit (and ours is only 2 which we blew in one storm because we can never just close for one, God forbid!) they will take it from vacations later in the year. Shockingly my district is open. If they do an early dismissal later, so be it- at least it counts of a day of instruction I believe.

My district is closed and DD’s daycare is closing early.
There better be 3 feet of mother flucking snow on the ground when I leave work later.

Re: Snow map
I was surprised schools are closed. I thought if anything they'd do an early dismissal. That's what the school my sister works at is doing- Catholic school in Queens. It's supposed to be really bad later and snow up until 1 AM. I'm thinking tomorrow is going to be the bad day. I came to work today since if it's bad I'll stay home tomorrow.
ETA: When I went to bed last night, my app said rain with a little mix of snow every once in awhile. My app now says snow almost 100% chance until 1 AM. They can never get it right.

My district is closed with barely anything on the ground. They should’ve went in today and close tomorrow if anything.

Ugh, I wish ours did this. Just warn parents to plan for an early dismissal. There’s literally nothing on the ground, it’s so silly.

Our district is open however, I've heard it is suppose to start up again later and be heavy. My DH's company actually just sent out a memo that they will be closing today at 2pm ahead of the snow.

Snow map
Looking at the radar it looks like hardly anything is going to hit Suffolk. It says rain and snow mix all day except for literally one hour of just snow and then right back to a mix. Tomorrow says sunny all day. So glad our schools are open.

It's not supposed to start till about 1pm, from all the weather outlets I follow, but Nassau & Suffolk are not supposed to get that much, they never were. I live and work in Queens, and we are still predicted double digits.

Re: Snow map
I'm in Stony Brook, my weather app (which is usually very accurate) is saying 5-8" this afternoon and another 1-3" tonight.

Such a waste of a snow day. They will be going to school their whole spring break at this rate. But enjoy the "snow" day today. Some snow!

Also in queens. DS's school cancelled all after school activities and ALL kids must be picked up at dismissal (2:30pm)

Re: Snow map
3V just called an early dismissal ahead of the snow. Guess it will end up being a snowstorm after all.

Re: Snow map
They really screwed this one up. First the Armageddon like totals that kept getting lower and lower. And the timing. It was all about Tuesday into Wednesday and now nothing until later? Forecasting is really just a guessing game.

it really is. I know the storm shifted overnight so that's why they are saying it will be worse later on during the day but I am still not convinced.
Also my app that I swear by is showing only rain for 3 different areas on long island so far they have not changed over to snow once my app says it I may actually believe it but even then I probably won't believe it till I see the snow my self

Just got an early dismissal call. It's raining steadily and there is not a flake to be seen. That's BS.

But on the flip side you have parents that think spring break (winter break, etc) are unnecessary.

I’m one of those parents, I think a whole week off in February after he just had off end of December, to be followed by a whole week and a half off in March/April is not necessary. I miss his old school where he just has two days off for Presidents’ Day. My sons school also get random @ss professional days and half days. Spring break I’m fine with, winter break is not necessary.
Eta: I think my son could've had school today and maybe tomorrow cancel. They were doing their state test so I really didn't want to prolong this. He also has no snow days left.
