A TON of schools are closed across Nassau and Suffolk. There's literally nothing outside my window Chat Icon ...did other areas get it that bad?

It's not supposed to start till about 1pm, from all the weather outlets I follow, but Nassau & Suffolk are not supposed to get that much, they never were. I live and work in Queens, and we are still predicted double digits.

Such a waste of a snow day.
They will be going to school their whole spring break at this rate. But enjoy the "snow" day today.
Some snow!

But on the flip side you have parents that think spring break (winter break, etc) are unnecessary.

I’m one of those parents, I think a whole week off in February after he just had off end of December, to be followed by a whole week and a half off in March/April is not necessary. I miss his old school where he just has two days off for Presidents’ Day. My sons school also get random @ss professional days and half days. Spring break I’m fine with, winter break is not necessary.

That's me too. I am the one who said that winter break is where they should take the snow days from. Not Spring break.
Winter break is a depressing, stuck inside week of disaster.
At least spring break the weather is slightly nicer. Not great yet, because we live in NY, but slightly better than February.
And I certainly don't need my daughter home on a day like today. She would be miserable.

Unless you have 5-10k to drop for your family to go to a tropical island during February break!

Exactly, my son is home today and I have him working on his project. I also have to work, so he is basically hanging out in his room since I have all these calls. I think todays snow day was unnecessary but all the schools are closed by me in NJ.

Rain just changed over to big flakes here.

Still mostly rain here but it looks like it could change over soon. My fb is starting to fill with people asking about early dismissal. Chat Icon It's noon and there's literally nothing on the ground. I think they'll make it through the day okay.

It's crazy, they called early dismissal around 11. We had nothing but rain at that point.

I'm in total agreement that winter break is unnecessary. A week off in December, in February and again in April?? Silly. Just end school a week earlier in June.

Today was a waste. Just because there are snowflakes coming down now doesn't mean everything has to immediately close. When I was a kid my schools didn't close for less than 8 or 10 inches.

Same. I RARELY got a snow day. Now they get 2 in a row on a regular basis and get snow days at the drop of a flake.
Surprisingly my district only canceled after school programs and after care. No early dismissal.
I'm shocked.

When they were calling my house phone, cell phone, work phone, texting me, emailing me and sending a carrier pigeon and a smoke signal I thought for sure it meant an early dismissal.

They’re smart—they got the kids out before the snow, but didn’t lose the day. I wish my district did this!!

Re: Snow map

I stand corrected, it started coming down bad over here around 12. Just got back from the gym and it was a bad ride. 3pm pick up would've been dangerous for people.

Re: Snow map

We had some big snow coming down around noon, but it stopped after about 20 mins and it's been rain ever since. The roads are fine out here. I've been running errands from Port Jeff to Wading River and the roads are fine. I did see one accident but it didn't look weather related.

I'm in midtown. I thought light bulbs were blowing in the office from the lightning until the thunder followed. The snow keeps letting up and then coming back and letting up again. But this is supposed to just be the start of the bad part.

I'm in Huntington and it's been snowing hard for about an hour. Everything's covered now, even roads.

Roads are covered in a slush and it’s starting to snow harder so I can imagine as we lose daylight it’s going to be nasty. Last night they were saying Suffolk gets 1-3 now we are back in a warning and look at 6-8. Chat Icon
