Snow totals for Friday's storm- You will NOT believe this!
Unless you live in Connecticut, you were probably wondering what the big deal was about this storm. You probably complained about the 'hype' and the blah, blah, blah. Although I spent the entire forecast for the storm in the hospital with my son after his surgery, I heard one thing:
A heavy band of snow was expected to set-up in our area. Exact placement was tough to figure out, but it was known days in advance.
This map covers the entire area that the 'New York City meteorologists' forecast for. The heavy band ended setting up over Western CT. Reports were that snow fell at a rate of 4 inches per hour! Insane! (Thank God it only lasted a few hours.)
And if you live on Long Island and say 'who the hell cares', imagine if that had been just 30 miles south. That's not too far off.
Give it about 15 seconds for all numbers to load.

Then click 'Select an element' just off the upper right of the map, then click 'observed reports', then click 'reports last 24 hours', then 'snowfall'. (Or you may ned to click last 48 hours if you see this later.)

wow that's nuts!! two of the guys i work with didn't come in yesterday - one lives in wilton, ct. and one lives in somers, ny. NOW i get why!!!!

Kelly...Someone on Fb who works for nyc sanitation said Tuesday we are getting a really bad snow storm..worse than Xmas..Now i have watched the news and I hear snow but they arent sayin anything bad yet. Do u know of this storm or was this person joking?? thank u!!!

It is not a joke. 
However, this storm is still days away and the track is uncertain. If it hits, we are screwed. But there is a chance it may stay out to sea. We should know more on Sunday.

I live in Putnam County and I would estimate that there was about 6-8 inches on my car when I got off the train at 5 last night- and an additional inch or 2 after I got home.

My mom lives in that narrow band in CT. She got 10" in Danbury.
I was supposed to go today but we cancelled that.

it's days like this I HATE working for the county. We will never close because if we do the police get paid triple overtime, so we need to use personal time. So incredibly unfair.
(Sorry for the semi-unrelated vent )
