So - hi there - i'm a mom now....(it's long)
i have a second - fed Em and she's laying in her pack n play at the moment....
So - we went in to our 'final doc' appointment on the 2nd and my blood pressure was high, my fluid was low and the doc sent us to L&D (a day BEFORE our induction date). They decided to keep us at L&D and go for the induction early.
Long story short - had two cytotec tab thingies (instead of cervidil) and my water broke naturally at 5:30 on the 3rd. I did not progress all day long. I never got father than MAYBE 3 CM (though once i hit 3 - they gave me the beautiful and wonderful epidural). They kept me going until about 9:00 PM and decided that she wouldn't drop (she was NOT moving down at all) and we went for a c-section. (will do a birth story eventually)
Everything went well....the section was quick, she came out perfectly and her head was CROOKED - she would never EVER have made the trip down my canal - so the c-section was the right way to go & i cannot say enough about my docs...they were so amazing..
My BP never really dropped - so after a day or so - they put me on Magnesium Sulfate (even though i did NOT want to do it)....and from then - everything went downhill. I woke up the next day in what felt like day 4 of a HORRIBLE bronchitis attack. I couldn't breathe - there was popping in my lungs and they pulled the plug on the Mag as soon as they heard me wheezing. They were calling it pnemonia - and then changed it to pnemoniAL...not quite pnemonia - but having the same characteristics as it.
Fast forward a few days and i had many tests, chest x-rays, cat scans with dye, a bronchoscopy (where they found blood in my lungs) and eventually it was decided i may have to deal with asthma and who knows what else....after some time.
I am currently on: prednisone (60 mg to be weened to 10mg over the next 6 weeks) procardia (for the BP) advair (twice a day) a nebulizer (to be used every 4 hours - dave calls it my bong)
So - i currently can't pump (they said it's TECHNICALLY okay - but not until i'm down to 40 mg of the roids).
I'm okay using the formula - but i can't help but feel a little sad that my breast feeding plan is out the window for the moment (my milk is NOT in yet - i'm renting a hospital grade pump tomorrow).
so - last night was our first night home and it was wow....hard. i'm not feeling like myself - so i think that's the hardest part....but i'll get there...
thanks for listening - i have been so excited to join you girls here....

Welcome.
Sorry to hear the BF'ing is not working out just yet. You will find it's not the first time one of our "plans" falls through.
Hope you start to feel better soon.

Welcome and congrats!!!!
I'm sorry to hear about everything you went through. But it was all worth it...right? I hope the BF goes well for you down the line, I think it's so awesome that you'll be pumping to get your supply going so that you can try it down the line!

Hey Jess! Glad to hear you're home and doing ok. I must say the first few nights home was pretty hard. With recovering from the surgery, getting used to being a new mom and the feeding every few hours. It's scary! Thank goodness my mom stayed with us for a few days to help out.
Hope you feel good and congrats again!!

Wow. I am so sorry you were so sick. I was on procardia also and I hated it! It never kept my pressure down all day. I still spiked. Now I am on Cardizem and I feel so much better.
I hope the asthma issues clear up and you can start pumping soon. Hang in there. I know how frustrating it is to not feel good for a while after you get home.
And congrats on your beautiful baby girl!!!

Re: So - hi there - i'm a mom now....(it's long)
I am so sorry you went through that.
I wanted to let you know there is hope. I had a BF plan that went right out the window after giving birth to DS. I also had horrible complications and was in the hospital for 10 days after giving birth. I don't know much about the medicines you are on, but I can tell you that I was also on Advair and BP medicine. (NO idea what else I was on, but I was able to BF on those two meds.)
I had a procedure at 6 days pp which they told me to pump and dump for a while. Are you able to pump and dump? That can help build your supply. Doctors told me to just give up and not breastfeed. I told them to go to hell.
I am here if you'd like to talk. Hope you feel much better soon!!

Congrats to you and Dave - she's beautiful.
You'll find as a parent, almost none of your "plans" work out. Don't sweat the BF too much. You'll end up doing exactly what you were meant to do.

Re: So - hi there - i'm a mom now....(it's long)
yay!!!! welcome!!!
every baby is so different. where one baby could be a total angel, another could be an angel in disguise . allison was one of the latter...the first couple months were absolutely torturous! i couldn't figure her out. after 3 months i was definitely myself again and regained some sort of sanity...but the 6 weeks post partum were rough on me, so don't feel like the odd man out if you're in that situation.
i'm glad you're doing better and i that things get smoother with you and emma!

Re: So - hi there - i'm a mom now....(it's long)
The first few weeks are so hard as it is, I could only imagine what it must be like while being as sick as you were/are. It will get easier but you just need to rest as much as possible (I know almost impossible) and just get better. Everything else will fall into place over the next few weeks.
Congratulations on your baby girl!!

Re: So - hi there - i'm a mom now....(it's long)
I'm sorry you're so sick!
I had pneumonia too. I wasn't diagnosed with it until I left the hopsital 2 days later.
My room was so terribly dry and hot, so the nurses brought a fan in for me. I love to sleep cold, so I buried my body and head uner the blankets one ngiht, as the fan blew directly on me. I was not very good at alll with being consistent with the incentive barometer - I too had a C. I developed an awful cough in the hospital which manifested itself into pneumonia after we were home.
I was wreck! I was so sick and so emotional. The C pain was still there, so every time I coughed I saw stars. I gave in, and let my mom stay over, and she and DH took shifts with Jake, while I rested. I had to.
All the drugs just added to my emotions. I just remember being so out of it, so overwhelmed and soo emotional. One minute overcome with joy and love, and the next scared of my 12 week maternity leave.
My whole long response is to let you know that we've been there. And while the 1st few nights home can be rough, they are not indicative of what is to come. It gets easier, and before you know it, you and baby settle down into a routine, and its wonderful. Expect high emotions, ask for help, and enjoy your beautiful baby girl!
