So a family member has a brand new (in the box, never opened) bed frame...
Is it possible to buy a headboard ONLY?
I'm so clueless

Yes you can buy a headboard alone. But maybe by bedframe they mean the frame that the actual bed sits on???

the frame is the cheapest part
you usually get it for free with the mattress
we don't have a headboard- just the frame- we are waiting to get bedroom funiture when we buy a house

oooooh ok - that makes sense. I seriously have no clue.
I would REALLY love a wall-hung headboard... like this:
but this is nice, and only $180 on overstock

We were going to make ours but we found the one we got at Bombay c. We looked at Pottery Barn outlet (they had a ton, but mostly fulls and kings). So yes, you can buy just a headboard. You can do a wall mount, but most come with hardware that you screw into the corners of the metal bedframe. Takes two people, but isn't hard.

Just a thought Nic, but when I look at the second one you posted, all I can think of is when the time comes to dust

Nic, I had this one, from Overstock.com and actually tried to do what you did!! I had the frame and ordered the cubby-headboard. I could never get them to attach properly, so it was always a little wobbly.
I bought it because I thought the cubbies would be drool-tastic for storage space... but it really made it weird to sit up in bed and stuff..... I wouldn't recommend...

Thanks Mel - I passed on the headboard.
I'm just not getting one for now. When we can afford a nice bed, we'll just get one. The frame and mattress set is good enough for now.

I was just going to tell you do that. You can always doll up the bed w/ tons of pillows to make it look nicer.
We only had the frame in our first apt up until we just got our new bedroom set. It's really all you need for now. Then when you get in to a house you can get a new bedroom set and keep the frame for a spare room.
