So, a Jew goes to the beach in Atlantic City
and gets blessed by a priest!!!
We were just lying on the beach in AC, when a huge crowd of people, news crews, and a priest start walking towards the water and stand right in front of us....
Apparently Friday was the day of the blessing of the water...something they had been doing at this beach for many many years
After the priest and some others took a small boat out over the waves, they came back and people lined up to be blessed...
DH is Catholic (non practicing), and I am Jewish. We sat and watched this whole thing....DH thought it would be hypocritical for him to be blessed, but I figured since I am a Believer, how can it hurt?
So, I put my cover up on and took my sunglasses off and stood in line. I told DH to take a pic since no one would believe it, but he couldn't figure out his cell phone camera 
Anyway, I wasn't struck down by lightening, and DH hit the jackpot on a video poker machine 
Now, only if I can get pregnant!!!

My grandma believed in this as well- she always used to make us go in the water and told us that 'the cure' was in the water on that day.
I actually have a bucket of water from our creek sitting in my back yard b/c I wanted to make sure my family went in.... and it's still sitting there covered. I went in like 15 mins before midnight- but just up to my knees.... it was too dark to go swimming 
I do believe in this- I was raised to. 
ETA: It's funny you brought this us. While we're on the topic of church- DH dragged me yesterday, though it was honestly the last place I wanted to be. I'm now in my angry stage I guess. 
Anyway DH stood up in front of the entire congregation and told them how we're going thru struggles and trials, and how the Lord gives, and takes away and sometimes we don't understand, but that he wanted to thank God for them. I cried pretty much the whole time we were there (big shock ) and wanted to scream when he was thanking God and ask him why we were being put thru this.
Anyway, after church several people came over and prayed with/over us and cried/hugged us... it was very moving to see the care and love that they have. Someone is bringing me a book on how to deal with losing your unborn child, which I believe is pretty much all from scripture, though she said it really helped her when she lost hers.
They also had a pastor visiting from Uguanda yesterday who prayed over us and he told me that the reason I was being put thru this was because there was a group of women who needed my guidance and support, who were struggling as well (or something to that effect- I'm on my way out the door for my (I hope) last beta.. )- I immediately thought of my LIF girls 
He then went on to prophecize that by this time next year we would have a baby. DH feels that this man is a true man of God, but I've heard of false prophets (as has he) so now DH has found new hope (though he never lost his) and said we'll see what happens... just thought I'd share.

I'm Caltholic and I've never heard of this. I know Friday, August 15, is the Feast of the Assumption, but I didn't know of any connection.
Extra blessings never hurt! Good for you!

I hope so too, for everyone here.
Just a story to share.. I've never been to religous. And after having my loss the first IVF cycle, I completely lost all faith and trust in G-d. My husband spoke to my BIL (my BIL and SIL are orthodox). Well my BIL set up this meeting for us with the High Rebbe (Rabbi) in a small community in Monsey. In this community this Rebbe offers prayers/blessings every night starting at 9pm until the wee hours of the morning. So, my BIL put us in contact with a husband and wife, who got an appointment with him and who were our guides so to speak (kind of hard to explain). Anyway, we were told the Rebbe would see us at 10pm one night, we ended up not getting in until midnight though. (this was about 5 days before my 2nd IVF beta test) We sat in this room with the Rebbe while my husband explained to him our situation. I could tell he was very moved. What took me back was when this Rebbe (pretty old, grey hair, long grey beard, etc) started asking me about my progesterone and explaining how important it was. I actually found it rather funny. Anyway, he blessed us and sent us on our way, and asked that we update him in the coming weeks. It was actually very surreal and very spiritual for me. I left there in tears. Whether it played a part in finally getting my BFP, I'll never know. But I like to think it did.

Lisa, I take blessings from wherever they come. Dooodles gave me the prayer of St. Gerard that I carried with me for a long time while TTC and undergoing my IF journey.
When my father had been ill, we had prayer circles from Catholics, Christians, Muslims in the ICU unit, you name it. It kept us going. Good faith is good faith. In return, we brought them donuts. Thats what we Jews do to say thank you - we force feed .
If a priest blessed me and my child, I'd be grateful and gracious. Do what you gotta do!
