It's behind the counter at the Pharmacy! I had no idea. And the stores didn't have signs either Chat Icon

I had no idea that you can make crystal meth out of some cold medicines!! DH had to give his license and sign a form for it.

Who would have thought? Chat Icon

Isn't that just awfulChat Icon
Same goes for allergy meds, sudafed.

What stinks now is that, what if you needed meds after the pharmacy is closed, you are screwed.

Oh yeah I knew you could make it out of cold medicine ....

How is Mikey? Did you ever find out what the allergic reaction was to?

I agree this new law is the pits!!! Several years ago they tried just limiting the amount of Sudafed containing products a person could buy. But that didn't help because the people using Sudafed to make crystal meth weren't buying it -- they were stealing every product off the shelf. Several companies have reformulated their products and put phenylephrine in instead of pseudoephedrine (both are decongestants). Those are still in the regular cough and cold aisle.

CVS has it behind the counter in the front, so you don't need the pharmacy to be open.

I am so glad you posted this because when DS was sick a few months ago I only had samples that the Dr. gave me and I went to 3 stores and couldnt find it. I never even thought of asking the pharmists

Yeah it took me going to 2 drug stores to realize it myself, I forget how I remembered - maybe I saw a sign. I told the nurse at the dr's office yesterday she may want to remind patients' parents that if they recommend it to anyone (like she did to me).

Can you imagine buying Pediacare to make meth?

I was a bit uneasy giving my name, address and license to the cashier - I thought that the law just stated it had to be behind the counter. So what are they going to do with our names and addresses? Have the DEA drive around and make sure we don't live in meth homes? Chat Icon Seriously, I normally don't mind complying with the law for things where I know I'm not breaking it or will ever break it, but really, why do they need to know where I live?

Here is a link to Wikipedia about the federal and state laws:

Wikipedia entry regarding pseudoephedrine and Federal and State Law

One part of the law states:
Daily sales of regulated products not to exceed 3.6 grams without regard to the number of transactions

So does that mean the store itself cannot sell more than 3.6 grams? What if my child has a bad cough and at 9pm I run into CVS and I'm told "sorry we cannot sell you any, we already sold the amount we're allowed to by law"
That would really tick me off.Chat Icon

I just read the Wikipedia site and that is so interesting that this whole thing is part of the Patriot Act.

No. It means a person can only buy 3.6 grams per day. That is why they take your info. So they can catch the people who go from one store to another to get enough to make the "dope"!

THANK YOU so much! I've been looking for this since yesterday for Jack and I was wondering why I couldn't find it, well except for the vapor plug!

Duh, Damm Meth Heads! I can't believe I didn't think of that earlier probably doesn't help that I'm sick as well.

Luckily my CVS pharmacist saved my butt and told me to just drive up and sign everything so I didn't have to drag mine or Jack's sorry butts in.

Edited to add!!! DAMMIT, he is finally asleep but CVS just called to say they kept my liscense by accident!
