So, all i've been thinking about lately is starting a family, BUT
I just dont know how we're going to do it...I mean, i know you make it work however you have to. We have a huge mortgage and my DH's salary wont even cover that..not to mention all our other bills.. I know i'll have to go back to work after the baby is born, but while i'm at work, i dont know where the baby would be..I'm sure my parents would watch them, but i cant rely on that every day, i know its a lot of work, and my parents are just getting older..
I just would like to know how you all did this if you need both incomes...thank you!

So Sorry, this is the dilema almost all of us have. Its so tough to balance it all. But somehow,it works out. Have you considered daycare after your leave is up?

Are you completely tied to your job? I don't know where you work, but if you REALLY want to start a family, what about a job that has daycare provided? Although I don't know how young those programs start at.

I am definitely not tied to my job, even moreso now because all they pay is the NY state disability- $170/week before taxes... So, i'm trying to find something that pays disability full salary and get in asap because i dont know how long you need to work somewhere before you become eligible..

Luckily my mother and sister in law want to watch the baby when I go back to work. Me and DH have struggled to find a way for me to stay home but it is not possible. We just bought a house and DH already works 2 jobs. If we didn't have them, I don't know how we could do it since day care is so expensive. I can understand your frustration.

Most companies require that you are there for 12 months before the disability payments would kick in...but each job may be different. I would not count on family watching a baby without discussinig with them in advance. Also, caring for an infant everyday is a lot of work. I know my MIL (who is 65 and doesn't work) could not do it (she lives in MA, but even if we lived near here she couldn't). Of course, maybe you could do P/T daycare and have your parents 2x a week watch the baby. That will save you several hundred dollars per month. Plan on paying for daycare or you could decide to downgrade to a smaller home with lower taxes. Some people do that in order to afford to have a family. There are other ways to lower bills as well. Use coupons, don't eat out much, buy non dry-clean clothing, take budget vacations..all of it adds up. Good Luck with your decision.
