So annoyed w/school district over CPSE......UPDATED IN OP
I have literally called my school district CPSE office 2x's a week for the past month, maybe more. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they dont. Either way I ALWAYS leave a message. NOONE ever gets back to me.
Should I go down there? Should I write a letter? Should I contact the district office? I pay alot of money in school taxes and find it extremely rude and unprofessional noone has gotten back to me after at least 8 messages, probably more!
ETA: After I do finally speak to someone, how long of a process is it...how long does it generally take to set up an evaluation? How long after an evaluation to I find out if he will get speech?
UPDATE
So I was going through the Merrick school district website and found an e-mail address for the head of the dept. I literally got a phone call 30 seconds after I sent the e-mail.
I am stopping by the office to complete the paperwork and I need to register him and all evaluations will be done within 30 days of completing and handing in the paperwork.

If they don't answer I leave a message on their machine.
If the secretary ( I guess that's who it is) answers I leave a message...she takes DS's name, DOB, address, etc. and says a particular person will get back to me and NEVER does!

I would tell her whats going on and refuse to get off the phone till someone came on.

Re: So annoyed w/school district over CPSE
I would call the Administration Building and ask to speak to the Director of Special Ed. Tell them about all of the messages that have been left & express your concern for your child and the fact that you would like to have an evaluation done ASAP so that steps can be taken to help your child. It can take a while and this late in the school year may prolong it even more. Now there are all kinds of Annual Reviews and things that tie up Special Ed teachers and Speech Teachers.

Since you will ultimately have to submit your request in writing, I would just start by doing that. Send a letter certified mail with return receipt to the special education department requesting the evaulation. They will have no choice but to contact you.

I did not know that I had to submit a request in writing.
What should I include in the letter?

Re: So annoyed w/school district over CPSE
What are you trying to contact them about?
ETA- does he get EI services?
You wouldnt need to contact them at ALL...If he doesnt get EI, you would call any agency of your choice to do the eval for you, then the agency forwards it to the district and the district sends you an appnt for the cpse meeting. If he is not in EI, just call an agency and request a cpse "evaL" for whatever services you need.

Yeah, if your child doesn't already get services. Just write that you are requesting an evaluation for xyz. Or you can just go through an agency like the AP said.

He did get EI from July-December of 2009 but did not requalify. His speech therapist recommended I wait until he turned 3 and get another evaluation.
Do I pay for the evaluation out of pocket? Do I need a prescription from the dr?
ETA: It would have been so much easier just to transition from EI to CPSE but he did not requalify so they didnt see the reason to have him evaluated by CPSE. EI said they wouldnt accept him.
