so bummed.....little vent
so my RE office just called to run through my insurance coverage and i knew i would have to pay something out of the pocket and i thought it would only be a few hundred dollars...... well its not Before i can start ny cycle DH and i have to pay $2800 we dont have that kinda money right now. since DH has been out of work for months because of his chemo and just started back up working full time not to long ago we have no money saved. all the money we had saved we had to use when he wasnt working so now that leaves us with nothing. we really wanted to start this summer so it would conflect with my job( im a teacher and have off all summer) so i could go to the RE when i needed and not have to worry about taking off or coming into work late all the time. i couldnt believe all these charges they were getting out of us. im so bummed we prob wont be able to start next month as planned my mother in law was going to help us but now shes not on board with us doing IVF and told us she will not be helping us like she said.( my mother in law is crazy i wish i had time to tell you all the horrible things she has done to us) im sorry for this long rant im just really upset that things arent working out for us againi feel like we have been through enough with DH being sick why cant this come easy for us?! can you just send me some hugs? thanks for reading

I am SO SORRY to hear that this is not going as planned for you... Hopefully something will work out. It is only the beginning of summer vacation so maybe things will fall into place by next month and you can move forward as planned!!

Re: so bummed.....little vent
Does your DH's job offer that health flex spending option ??? I hope you can find a way to make it work Sometimes an RE office will work out a payment plan type of thing with you- I know mine was extremely understanding (we had no IVF coverage)

Some companies offer an option to have pre-tax $ up to a certain amount come out oif your check to put towards health related expenses... Heres is a link I found that might better explain it (maybe ask the HR dept at his job if they participate in anything like this)

Re: so bummed.....little vent
If you insurance cover IVF why do you pay for meds?(cuz that will run you $3-4k!) I would call fertility lifelines(google them) they will call your insurance and find out exactly what is and isn't covered. Talk to your clinic-ask them if you can do payments. If all else fails, find a new clinic. My clinic RMA worked with me on financial matters

Re: so bummed.....little vent
First off . I am sorry that your insurance is not covering what you hoped it would. Teachers usually have excellent insurance for infertility, especially those that work in public schools. Is there any way you can borrow the money from other relatives or use a low interest credit card? There are also IVF loans and grants.

Re: so bummed.....little vent
before taking a loan or using a credit card. ask them if you can pay it in installments. in college i worked for an OB affiliated with NSUH and we would accept installments when ever there was a lack of insurance coverage.
I am a teacher too an I totally undersand why this summer was so important to you! I am on the same track for the same reason!
Don"t throw in the towel yet. Don't be shy...make some phone calls. You never know. Good luck! I have a good feeling it will work out for you!

ITA with everyone. It never hurts to ask!!! Don't give up yet, there is always a way. I'm surprised you'd have to pay for your meds also. That could be $3-$4k.
Good luck and KUP.
