So frustrated...

After 6 months of irregular cycles, this was my first on metformin and clomid together...and it's CD22 and no sign of ovulation!!!! I'm so ticked off. I keep asking my DH to BD, just in case the OPKs aren't being accurate because of PCOS (but I have no change in temp either), and we're already sick of BDing on demand. I'm thinking if this is how we feel now, and it could only be the beginning, we're never gonna make it through...Chat Icon
I just needed to let that out because we haven't said anything to our families because we don't want to deal with that.

Re: So frustrated...

I know exactly how you feel. Are you seeing an RE? if so you should schedule an appointment with them and ask them to do an ultrasound, they can see if anything is happening or not. I've been using the opks and temping. The opks can get quite expensive especially if your af is late. See if the doctor can help you, I know this is frustrating but with the help of metformin and clomid you should be ovulating pretty soon!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have PCOS as well. It took my first RE four months on Clomid to get me to ovulate. Reading your post, I thought of two points you might want to discuss with your doctor...

1. I don't have the studies in front of me but some research has shown that women with PCOS are not the best responders to Clomid. It took a very large and long dose with me in ordert to ovulate. Finally, on month four with 150mg for 8 or 9 days. Clomid stays in your body and builds up over time so my new RE and I have a feeling it was the cumulative dose that jump started me.

2. Your metfromin dosage might need to be tweaked as well. My new RE put me on Metformin 1500mg at bedtime and I ovulated the first month. Granted I also had 5 months of Clomid in my system. BTW: It is advised that women do not take Clomid for more than 4 or 5 months in a row.

3. Have you also cut back on carbs and sugars? Of course, all sugary snacks are a no-no but our bodies also react adversly to any processed carbs. White food is our enemy (white processed flour). Try to limit carbs but if you must stick to whole nutty grains.
If you are craving sweets, try fresh fruit, particularly berries are a good choice as they are low on the glycemic index.

4. I've also read on the PCOS message board and a doctor confirmed it for me that a 1/2 of teaspoon of cinnamon on your (non-sugary) cereal in the morning helps women with PCOS and diabetics to keep their insulin resistance down. I've started eating oatmeal (whole grain/organic, not instant) in the morning with blueberries and a teaspoon of cinnamon.

That's all of the advice I have for now.
I would definitely talk to your doctor about changing your protocol.

Wow, thanks for all the info. I ovulated when I was just on 100mg of metformin, but they put me on the clomid to help out and lengthen my LP a little. I just feel like this is prolonging things because I'm supposed to go for my progesterone test a week after O and I wanna know those results and it's just getting prolonged....

I'm wondering if its because of which ovary looked active this month. When I went for my day 3 sono, the tech showed me which ovary looked active for this month and the doc said that that ovary looks typical of PCOS but the other one looks really good. Maybe I O'd off the good one last month, but the other one is screwing me over now....????? Ugh, I back to the doc next week.
