So frustrated-shower vent

aughh at this rate i dont even want a shower, i feel like its too much for everyone, my mom is against it and forget throwing it, she wont even invite most of her family to it (we are jewish and she also thinks showers are just for asking for gifts), my sister couldnt throw it b/c she just did my bridal shower last june and financially she cant do it, and my step-mom wont throw it b/c she also never did showers in her family even though shes catholic and also b/c she and my mom dont get along so she qwouldnt invite my mom, so the burden is on my DH (who is a saint) his family always throws showers for people (he's itailian) and he really wanted me to have one, so he aked my SIL if we could use her place and she said yes, but she could only fit a limited amount of people, fine so i cut my list and only invited immediate family/friends and its still over the limit b/c besides his side, i have my mom and dad/stepmoms side, i even cut out work people and some of my friends who i have known a really long time, plus as much as my DH is trying he never planned a baby shower let alone a party, so he's been very last minute and he doesnt even have a date yet (b/c my step mom is busy most of april and may and he didnt want to nag her), let alone the definite place, i just feel like we might as well forget it, i thought my SIL was going to help him but so far thats hasnt happened besides offering her house, orignally it was going to be a surprise, but b/c of everything, i pretty much know all. I don't know, i just had my first real pregnancy outburst/crying scene b/c i am so fustrated with my family and hisChat Icon i feel like everyone else wants parties and all that stuff for themselves and i feel like this/I am isuch an inconvience

That is a really good idea!! I would love to have my shower at my house at this point!

Plus you said you had to cut your work friends, is it a possibility that you will have a work shower too? Then you wouldn't have to worry about feeling bad about inviting them. I work in Manhattan for a small office and they were invited to my shower and since it is so far away, they are going to do something small for me at work instead.

I am sorry you are so upset. I totally feel your pain, I almost told my mom to cancel mine b/c it was becoming such a PITAChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

thanks guys, unfortunately we live in a 2 bedroom condo so we def could not fit everyone, and my mom and step mom houses are out, i am sure DH will figure it out, hopefully he can convince my SIL to go over her limit, i just dont want DH to have to rent a place/restaurant, it'll be way to expensive, at that point i will just tell him i appreciate his effort but forget it
i feel like i am being emotional but i have always looked forward to having a shower, i ddint think it was going to be this much of a PITA

I completely understandChat Icon My mom actually said to me "I know it is a huge inconvience to you, but whatever"Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am sure it will work out and you will have a lovely shower. I mean, you could always do the old wedding trick of an "A" list and a "B" listChat Icon

Re: So frustrated-shower vent

I'm so sorry you are going through this and I can totally relate. My mom caused so much trouble with my shower, and in the end didn't even come, which was very enmbarrassing and upsetting. I had accepted the fact that I was going to have to plan it myself and was okay with that. it wound up that my MIL with the help of one of my friends threw me an awesome shower. I am so grateful to them.

Would you consider planning it together with your DH? Or, do you have a close friend that would help out? I know it's not the ideal situation, but it's an alternative, and at least you will have exactly the kind of shower you want if you are involved in the planning. try to remember that the important thing is that you have a special day to celebrate the upcoming birth of your child, and although the circumstances leading up to it may not be what you had hoped for, enjoy the day!!

i'm sorry you're going through this. people are SO insensitive! Try not to worry about the work friends because i'm sure they'd do an office shower of some sort. wish i could offer more help. Chat Icon
