I completely believe in this...some kids are just belly sleepers. Just make sure it's a firm matress & be careful of blankets.
This will completely change your outlook once she's started sleeping for HOURS.

Every day we make choices and calculate the risks in deciding what we will do for our child, and what we can live with. You are not a bad mom, you've simply observed your child and decided that the benefits outweigh the risks.

I see nothing wrong with a baby sleeping on there tummys during the day when you can check on them a lot, but when they go to bed at night its different cause they can suffocate, when your not watching them sleep. I always put Julia on her back.

Shana, your not a bad mom at all. John was a belly sleeper too, they are just more comfortable that way, they feel secure. We bought the angelcare monitor for that reason plus we had a video monitor for more peace of mind. Look into the angelcare it will make you feel more at ease

My kid naps on a pillow on our bed, I don't know if it gets much worse than that but 90% of the time its the only way she will stay asleep. I am slowly working on breaking this habit. I keep the video monitor on her and watch the screen like a hawk. You learn to do what you have to do.

same here!!! Mydaughter slept with a pillow in her crib from the time she was 9 months old!! My son loves the pillow, I just make sure it's not a fluffy one, in fact, buy buy baby sells a "my 1st pillow", it is hypoallergenic and not fluffy at all! Do what works for Alyson, Shana sounds like you are a very patient, insightful Mom!

Re: so how bad of a mom am I for letting her nap on her belly?
You're not a bad mom for that. You know your daughter better than anyone else. My cousin's daughter suddenly stopped breathing just a few hours after birth. She then had to spend 10 days in the NICU. When my cousin brought her home, she had her sleeping on her belly when she realized that's the only way she would sleep well. You would think that after a scare like that she wouldn't even chance it. Not every baby is the same.
What I would do though, if I were you, is consider getting a video monitor and even the Angelcare monitor for peace of mind, particularly at night.

Logan is sleeping on his tummy as I type this...he sleeps so much better, but I do put him on his back at night.

My niece slept on her belly from the first day she was brought home from the hospital and she is almost 4.
