So, I am officially a sports mom now...but

it is really getting in the way of other fun!

Practice was tonight at 6, so we missed out on a museum date.
Tomorrow is St Pat's day parade in charlotte...can't go, we have practice.

I think i have been spoiled by my free schedule and planning...
what priority does practice have in your kid's life?

do you rsvp no to bday parties?

and tball isn't what it use to be...I feel like if he blinks he misses out on something important.
tonight he got a great hit...made it to 2nd base....however, he ran over pitcher's mound to get there.Chat Icon

thanks

I never have made my son miss a b-day party even when playing football. There is just no way I would do that to him. He is only 7. But football is really intense. Practice 3 nts per week and game 1x per week. No practice- no game. But t-ball is really not a big deal in my neighborhood. Someday I know he will have to give up parties for his sports but he is still very young.

Sports are for fun in our house. When they were smaller the coaches used to tell us that it was okay to miss practices and games because it's really just about learning skills - the SAME skills... Over and Over and Over and Over. We would only skip in the event of something else - not just because we didn't feel like it. As they got older we became more strict about practices and games become more important team events so we'd only consider skipping if it was REALLY important. In the interim though - don't feel bad about missing a practice or two!Chat Icon

As a travel soccer coach, I will tell you that on the intramural level, it's annoying for coaches and teammates when kids miss because it throws off practices, but it's not the end of the world. But on the travel level, it's a lot worse and directly affects playing time. While I don't think missing practice for a party once in a while is terrible, I can say that coaches have to decide somehow who starts the game, who gets the sought after positions, etc...and it's going to be the kids who come to practice.

Just want to give the coach perspective too.

I know it will happen and I am dreading the day. But for now, in t-ball, I think she is safe.
