So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

... but it doesn't seem to be working!

I got the Plum Light I saw advertised somewhere because I thought it would be a good, gentle option.

Anyone else have any suggestions? I'm really trying not to resort to any meds if possible.

Re: So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

I started drinking it yesterday afternoon. I've had about 3-4 glasses over the past 18 hours. (two with dinner, another with lunch today). I guess I thought it would sorta go right through me...

I just finished a sample pack of one that I don't think did and I'm going to start another sample pack from the giant bag 'o goodies my OB gave me tonight. I'm going to look through them and see if any say they have that -- thanks for the suggestion!

I think they're nearly the same. They just started making a "plum juice" because it makes you feel less like an old person drinking it.

Not sure about Plum Juice - never heard of it.

Try eating prunes or dried apricots.
My dr. said I can take a Colace if none of the above work.

Not sure how similar or different they are, but I used prune juice. One small can at night before going to bed. I woke up in the morning having to goChat Icon

Yeah, I agree....never tried plum juice. But, I can tell you that prune juice works like a charm...just a little bit!
Stool softeners are really gentle and seem to work pretty well, also.

Prunes are just dried plums. So really, they are the same thing.

The concentrations may be different though in the juices. Wait a while and if it doesn't work, kick it up to prune juice.

Re: So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

Honestly- check the fiber content.
I was surprised to find out that prunes and prune or plum juice don't have as much fiber as you may think.

Get some Quaker High Fiber Instant Oatmeal and some Fiber one bars

Does the trick!Chat Icon

Re: So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

Oh I do like oatmeal! Maybe I can give that a try...

The plum juice doesn't have all that much fiber in it, but the amount of antioxidents is through the roof and I love that about it! Plus it's actually sweet and soothing to drink (as opposed to OJ which OMG is like drinking battery acid!!!). I'm gonna keep on trying it a few more days before I panic.

I think I'm gonna ask DH to take me out for Indian food for dinner this Friday... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I have been CRAVING good indian food, and sometimes that does have the tendency to do the trick...

I keep thinking I'm fighting an uphill battle and this isn't going to get easier. I'll only be 9 weeks on Friday!

Re: So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

I've been eating a ton of fruit thru out my pregnancy and i haven't had a single problem. Maybe up your fruit intake and try some fiber additive to food. Maybe even a little Raisen Bran will do the trick.

Good luck!!

Re: So I finally folded and got some plum juice...

So the second pack of prenatal vitamins I broke out from the doc's goody bag is the CitraNatal Assure which have the softener in them, so we'll see how that works.

I just took the first two about 20 minutes ago and OMG I burped and it TASTED LIKE FISH!!!!!!!!! SO GROSS!!!!!!!!!!

I turned to DH and said "I love little baby, but that was disgusting."

I guess if it works, though, I might consider asking the doc for the prescription for them.

My problem was so bad when I started on prenatals, I took ex-lax. I would not advise it.

I started eating a fiber-one bar every morning. My bowels have never been happier.

To reduce the fish burps make sure you eat a little something first- then swallow the pill, the eat more. It seems to keep the vitamin "down" better.
I usually take my fishy vitamin during dinner- and I sandwich it between bites.
Seems to work!

And yes, look for the HIGH FIBER variety of the quaker oatmeal- it's a special kind but they have a few yummy flavors.
