So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

Can I join the PCOS club? Chat Icon Not that I really want to but that's the case. So Tuesday I have an appt for my HSG (yesterday was actually my Day 3 when I went to the RE, eek talk about embarrassing Chat Icon but they were great). My DH has to do the SA again and then when we get the results we will take it from there!

I am happy that I finally have some info....for years we thought it was just my DH, had no clue I had PCOS. But that explains my weight gain over the past few years, and my spotting and why I felt like I O'd some months and not others.

Any PCOS advice / experience, etc?

Re: So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

Sorry about the PCOS diagnosis, but at least you are on the way of proper treatment! And the CD sono's and such...I was so grossed out at first, but it's over so quickly, I try not to think about where I am in my cycle anymore.

Did the doctor discuss putting you on metformin due to the PCOS?

Re: So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

I am glad you finally have a diagnosis, now you will be on the right track.
The first thing that was prescribed to me when I was diagnosed with PCOS was metformin. I was on that for 3 months with no ovulation, and then added clomid. So far, I have been ovulating onthe clomid/met combo.

Good luck to you!

Re: So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

I have PCOS but because I am not drastically overweight and my blood sugar is totally normal- no metformin for me.
I started on Clomid, then moved to injectables, then IVF....it's easy to produce eggs once they figure out it's PCOS.
Good luck with the HSG!Chat Icon

She said Gonal - F.

Have you ever had any other types of fertility meds? I have to admit, I've never heard of using injectibles right away, especially with PCOS, since women with PCOS are at a higher risk of OHSS.

I have PCOS as well. I would definitely talk to her about being put on metformin asap. You'll respond better to fertility meds after you've been on them for a few months I believe.
I'm shocked as well that they would just throw you right onto gonal-f instead of dealing with the problem first--- the last thing you'll want to do is be pg and adjusting to metformin at the same time-- a lot of us had some stomach issues (rushing to the bathroom kind of issues) when first taking met. Good luck!Chat Icon

I agree, I'm a little surprised by that.

Welcome to the PCOS s*cks club.

I'll admit that I do a lot of "why me"--but I've been trying to stay more positive.

BUT, it's a good thing you now have a diagnosis!

Re: So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

I have PCOS too, my sugar was borderline normal and they put me on Metformin. I actually did a couple of rounds of Clomid before I moved onto injectables.

Good Luck!!!

I'm the same as Gerty...no real weight issue or blood sugar issue so no metformin. I started on Clomid also but I had no response, so we moved to injectibles (Gonal F). If this doesn't work we'll move on to IVF.

I'm surprised they wouldn't try Clomid first, a lot of PCOS women have success ovulating on it and it's a lot easier than injections. Your doctor should do a glucose workup on you to see if metformin would help.

Good luck -

Re: So I FINALLY have a diagnosis

Sorry she did mention the Metformin to me and the stomach issues...sorry Chat Icon it's so overwhelming to me. Then we would do the Gonal -F. It's all new to me! Chat Icon
