So, I guess I am officially "high-risk"...
I went to see a high risk OBGYN today, per the advice of my RE based on some of my blood work results.
I did not like the doctor at all, and now I guess I need to find someone else to go to-- even though I COULD still see my regular OBGYN. I need to think about it more. Anyone else in a similar situation?
Aside from telling me to continue what I am doing, I need to go on baby aspirin for the duration of the pregnancy-- actually until I am 8 months pg. No big deal.
I did have my first sonogram, but since I am only 5 weeks-- all that was there was the gestational sac and I guess the start of the yolk sac. Hopefully at my next sono, which is next Tuesday, I can see more and finally know that this pregnancy is viable since they were not able to determine today.
So, I guess no new news-- aside that I may need to find yet *another* doctor.

Re: So, I guess I am officially "high-risk"...
your RE released you to your OB already? I was about 7 weeks when I was released to my OB.
If your RE suggested you go to a high risk OB, find another one and go see them. They might tell you that you won't need a high risk ob

No, I just went for a consult based on some of my blood work-- I am still being treated by the RE. I haven't even called my regular OB to make an appt yet since it's too early.
The doc that I saw today, told me that I would be high risk-- and I can choose if I wanted to see her, or my regular doc.
I think I am going to wait to see my RE again, and ask her opinion.

I have a fabulous Maternal Fetal dr and group if you don't like mine - I had complications during my pregnancy where they thought DD might need surgery at birth - and I had some complications (excess fluid etc). I switched from a group on LI - to Columbia presbyterian's maternal fetal group - they even deliver, do sonos right there etc - so you don't have to go to different offices or even two different dr's (their office is at E. 60th street) I would be happy to give you their info if you are interested.

Can you FM who you saw??? I am not preggo yet....but I was referred to a high risk immediately after some blood work came back very abnormal from my OBGYN...They found out I have blood clotting disorder (+ANA, + MTHFR mutation- 1 copy, high homocysteine levels and + Anticardiolipin AB)....So needless to say I saw him and he too put me on ASA 81mg, Vit B12 and 6, Prenatals and High dose Folic acid...i have seen Heme and she suggested Lovenox after i conceive...So I am curious to know who you saw? I saw Dr. MacKenzie from Madonna Perinatal...I LOVEd him but he is a little more laid back and my hematologist is going the more aggressive route which is really confusing me.....But like I said, I am not preggo yet so I guess i/ have to wait and see when it happens. FM if you would like.

Actually-- that is where I went today. I saw the doc with the earliest appt-- I just made it on Friday.
I saw Dr. Perez-- not only did she answer her cell and text during my consultation, but she couldn't keep my facts straight or my RE's name and sex (weird considering they are colleagues affiliated with the same hospital). She also thought my "storytelling" about my chemicals was funny. Granted, I like to color a bit-- but, she actually told me thought it was funny. Totally rubbed me the wrong way. I know my situation is not that complicated, but at a minimum, I think I deserve her undivided attention when she takes my history.
The sono technician was nice though-- I liked her.
I also really didn't like that I would need to deliver on 168th and Broadway-- total PITA. My current OBGYN is NYU-- I would even do Columbia Pres on 68th and York-- all of my friends have delivered there.
I can probably find another doctor that I prefer in the practice, but I just feel funny about that.

You should definitely be on Lovenox. It is not bad at all. You may also want to look into prednisone for the ANA I have a titer of 1:320 and I am on prednisone 30 mg a day.

Not to Hijack this thread, but Thank you....I agree, but like I said am not pregnant yet, but when i get pregnant I am going to talk to MacKenzie and tell him what heme rec....the hematoligist FIRMLY believed that I should be on Lovenox and would gladly prescribe it for me she said, but I just think I should let him know and if he gives me a problem i will find another opinion, which will bring me to my next post....who does everyone see for high risk???

I have the exact same problem, it's called thrombophelia. I have been seeing my perinatal especialist with 4wks. I a now 21wks. He has two offices Brooklyn and Garden City. I love him, the only thing is that he doens't take HMO's. Here's his link:http://www.kofinasperinatal.org/go.cfm/03EC0595-CB62-BF70-CAA15C769FD455BC
He is hands on and very caring. He will call you back ASAP if he is paged. No long waits for the appts.
I wasn't told I needed to take the lovenox after the pregnancy, only during as well as my sister.
Best of luck and I hope this helps.

You are supposed to take it for 6 weeks after birth as this is the time when clots are most likely. I am with a high risk but I no longer live in NY. Sorry

Dr Perez was a boob (sorry but I totally agree with you on that - but your RE recommended her?? I thought she was the youngest and least experienced Dr in that office so I'm surprised she was referred to you) - I only saw her one time for 2 mins for an emergency visit and she scared the ***** out of me for no reason- I used Dr Gadipatti - who would go over everything with me undivided attention and my visits were pretty long. I hear you about wanting to deliver at Cornell instead - I chose Columbia b.c for my DD's possible condition Columbia was better than Cornell - but you can't go wrong with Cornell or NYU both are excellent hospitals. I didn't care about whether I went to Cornell or Columbia for distance reasons b.c I was already driving from Nassau but I could understand not wanting to go to Columbia if you lived much further downtown.
I know someone who went with a group from cornell for her twins and had a pretty good experience. Good luck it is hard to find a good dr out there that you love

My RE gave me the # of the practice, but no specific doc. I was trying to get an appt with Gaddipatti- since the staff told me he was the one to talk to with my situation, but he was away on vacay for a while-- so, they just got me in there quickly.
Do you think I should bother getting a second opinion from someone else? Or should I trust her? I am not going back to her-- but, my RE just wanted me to check with someone else to see if I should go on the baby asprin and/or lovenox or soemthng.

I go to my regular OB and I also see Dr. Goldstein (maternal fetal med. dr.) at Madonna Perinatal. They have offices in Babylon and Mineola. I know you said NYC but maybe Mineola would work for you too. I like him a lot and find him to be helpful, knowledgeable and patient.
