So I think I have to get used to this midwife idea...
I Knew it would be a lot different that a doctor.. but I guess I didn't know how different. I went to the midwife today for my first visit. She was soo nice but very hands off. There was no exam but A LOT of talking. I was there for almost 40 minutes. She wants me to come back in 4 weeks for a longer visit and an exam. Then she will send me for a sono to date the pregnancy. The only thing I thought was wierd was that she ordered all types of blood work and she didn't want and HCG level. She just said it is not important for dating a pregnancy. She didn't tell me why but I can guess. Maybe she thought that if there was a low HCg level and miscarriage is happening that there would be nothing she could do about it anyway.... I don't know.
ALso another weird thing... ALL of the pregnacy trackers online have me at 5 weeks due on May 30th. She told me that I was only 4 1/2 and due on May 28th?????????????? That makes no sense. She did use this wheel thing to determine the date and said that sometimes it is hard to tell with the little lines. She said the other tests and the sono will give a better date.
All in All I thought she was really nice and I really loved that I could spend so much time talking to her. She was on the way to someone's HOUSE to visit with them and coach the labor before they went over to the hospital. That really impressed me!!

It's kind of weird that she didn't do the hcg levels but I guess she has her reasons. I also had a midwife throughout my pg but she works closely with an ob/gyn who I also saw a few times. I agree that the ob was a little more thorough with the exams but I was happy with everything overall.
The dating discrepency is not uncommon. Your first sono will give you a much more accurate date. Good luck
