So I think I'm leaving my 7 week old over night..

w/my IL's so DH and I can celebrate our 1st anniversary. Do you think this will have any effect on DS?

Some details...I'm BFing so I'll have to make bottles (which DS is used to here and there, and I'll pump while I'm out)...we will be leaving him at 12pm Sat afternoon and picking him up 12pm Sunday afternoon. I'm just worried this is going to throw him off...no BFing...no sleeping where he usually sleeps, etc.

I need opinions...is he too young, do you think it will totally confuse him and would it be better to just come home Sat. night?

TIA!!

I'd say this is really a personal decision. Personally, I don't think I could have left DD for that long at 7 weeks old - not sure it'd be fair to her OR whomever was taking care of her. Is it possible to leave later in the day so there's not as many missed feedings?

I think it is great!! Get out!! When Andrew was 2 weeks old we went to a wedding. I think it's good to start early.

I agree. I wouldn't have done it but if you're comfortable doing it and will have a good time then go for it, I know for me I wouldn't have enjoyed myself so there was really no point to even try. 24 hours of not nursing probably won't be a huge deal but there's always the chance.

I had to leave Bella ay 7 weeks for a wedding that I was MOH in. I didn't breast feed so I am can't help with that, but my MIL watched her and did so overnight.

DH and I had a great worry-free night...and we couldn't wait to see her and give her kisses in the morning.Chat Icon

You obviously want to go away since you're thinking about it and have a plan in place. If I was in your position, honestly, I would definitely go away and have a great time...7 weeks old is not that bad...you have a plan in place and you should definitely go and enjoy yourself!

There is no right or wrong answer for this. Something like this is totally a personal choice.

happy anniversary!!!

Def a personal choice, but I would so go! I left DD that young and older. Honestly, for babies, it's easier to leave them at that age then when they get older and separation anxiety sets in.

They are so adaptable that young. GO have fun!

I'd go, he'll be fine. He's w/ your IL's (someone you trust/know). You have a plan in place, he'll adapt. I left my DD w/ my mom at 8 weeks b/c of a night back to school night at my school I had to go to (& DH works nights) & so my mom had her for 2 days & baby was fine. I pumped & made sure my mom had her miracle blanket & enough diapers & her favorite toy & it worked out fine. Enjoy!

Re: So I think I'm leaving my 7 week old over night..

DH and I celebrated our 1st anniversary when DD was 7 1/2 weeks....

We dropped her off at my Mom's house at 6pm on Saturday and picked her back up at 12 noon on Sunday...

She was FINE - she actually slept more that she was sleeping at home.

As long as you have someone willing to get up in the middle of the night to feed the baby, I think it will be good for you! But if the baby is used to nursing, I might try to offer the bottle a few times prior to that night, so it's not a total shock.

ETA - We're also leaving the baby next week (11 weeks) for the weekend as we have a wedding in PA where I am matron of honor...it will be strange, but I know she'll be in good hands with my Mom. Mom will pick her up on Friday morning and we'll get her on Sunday afternoon...

Re: So I think I'm leaving my 7 week old over night..

I would say to go and have a wonderful time!!!

I left DS overnight to celebrate my anniversary (a month late) at 9 weeks. My parents watched him at my house, but I don't think it makes a difference at that age.

I was also exclusively breastfeeding at the time. I pumped like crazy to leave enough bottles and then some for the time I'd be gone. I bought a manual breast pump with me and pumped in the back of our mini-van, the hotel room and a few public rest rooms. I kept a cooler in the car to store the breastmilk - valuable stuff! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it! We had a great time and DS had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa and Grandma and Grandpa had a great time with their grandson!!

Enjoy!!

We're actually dropping DS off at my moms tomorrow for the night. It's his first sleep over. We have a wedding and this mommy needs a night of rest desparately.

I think it will be good for you. Go for it!

Re: So I think I'm leaving my 7 week old over night..

go enjoy yourself!! We left my DD at 7 weeks also to go to AC for our 1 year aniversary. DD was fine. We dropped her off with my parents saterday around 10 am, and picked her up Sunday around 4. It was a nice break from the sleepless nights and for DH and I to be a couple again. We came back rested and refreshed. It was def good for us... and my parents loved having her.

I think your DS will be fine. I think you'll have a hard time. At 7 weeks I could not have left DD overnight. I'd settle for a nice dinner out w/DD at your IL's or with a trusted sitter.

I agree with the others that its a personal choice, I know I could not have left DS overnight that young, but then again I could not leave him overnight now and he is almost 5 monhts old.

I say do what makes you comfortable. It sounds like you really want to go, so go have fun, and try not to stress over it when you are way, cause that will defeat the purpose of going awayChat Icon
