So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

Apprently it's the thing to have in my area...i think it is us and one other neighbor who dont have landscapers. they are out already doing spring cleaning. i think it's funny...poor DH hates working outside Chat Icon

My reasoning is not the $$$. I grew up on an acre of property that my parents maintained and stills maintains themselves. I can't see DH and I not being able to handle 1/4 acre of property.

We had a landscaper last year but we are doing our own this year to save some money. We also don't have a very large property.

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

There were two things that were must-haves when we bought our home: a cleaning lady and landscapers.

It's not that we're lazy at all - just horribly overworked at this point in our lives. We tried doing the cleaning ourselves, but honestly just couldn't keep up. We get home very late during the week and have a full plate on the weekends -- it's the only time we have for errands, seeing friends and family, and spending time with our horses / working with our trainer.

However... I'm sure if we worked less, it would be different. Right now, though, work is insane...

I agree with Kara.

I come home in the evenings at 7-8 every night.

I work on the weekends too and so does DH. There's no time..and with the little time we have, we don't want to spend it mowing, weeding, seeding..etc..

We also have a cleaning lady and a landscaper.

I should have mentioned... that whole "weekend" thing is, of course, providing we aren't working... which both of us are this weekend.

Fun, fun.

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

One of the reasons why we got stuck on this neighborhood was the first time we drove around on a summer Saturday afternoon. And found people on every block, tending to their yards, washing their cars, playing with their kids.

I haven't seen many landscaping trucks around. I'm enjoying what I've been able to do so far, and looking forward to gardening weekends! Chat Icon

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

For us there's a sense of pride that goes along with doing (almost) everything ourselves. Yes it's a real PITA sometimes and sure we could be doing a million other more-enjoyable things, but there's nothing like busting your a$$ all day and then taking a step back to look at your handy-work and saying to yourselves "Yea, we did that and it looks damn good!!". It's a great feeling to pat ourselves on the back. What makes it even better is having that same sense of pride continue all year long everytime you step outside.

We are one of two houses on our street who don't have a landscaper, but we may be crossing to the dark side soon. Everyone else's lawns look seriously better than ours! I still like to do the flower beds myself though.

We don't have a landscaper. DH is just too cheap Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

In all seriousness, DH likes to do it himself. It's his hobby.

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

I grew up on 3.5 acres of land. Never had a landscaper.

Now that I own my own house & have 1/3 acre. We're not going to start.

Both DH & I enjoy working in the yard. I can 110% say we're very excited for tomorrow - we've planned to spend the entire day getting reacquainted with our yard.Chat Icon

It's funny...we have the opposite by me. Everyone has very large pieces of property.......and the homeowners seem to enjoy upkeeping it themselves..........and I will admit.....they do a damn good job at it. I've never seen such green, well-kept lawns. LOL

We dont have a landscaper yet.......not sure if we will.....its up in the air since we have only been here one summer so far.

I KNOW we're the only people on our block w/o a landscaper, but it's truly wearing DH down. He was going to wait until he was 40, but that's 5 years from now! We're caving and getting one for the fall.

We enjoy gardening and he doesn't mind mowing the lawn (our property is 60X100) during the warmer weather, but the fall is a TOTALLY different story. The sheer amount of trees on our block is unbelievable oh, and we have an enormous "itchy ball" tree on our front lawn. I can't even describe to you the amount of leaves and itchy balls. Plus, once the weekend rolls around I don't even see him then--he's outside raking for HOURS on end! Landscapers, here we come!!!!!!!

Many people around me have a landscaper too but my dh doesn't see the need when it takes him less than an hour to do the lawn in the summer and we save that money to do something else with it.

We don't have a landscaper either. Everyone on my block has one but us. My dh hates doing the yard work himself but won't get someone to clean up our yard. We still have leaves in our backyard from the fall...Chat Icon

We have one. We just continued using the same service as the previous owners. It's just one less thing we have to do.

Last year we tried to do the lawn ourselves. We became "that house". DH just didn't have the time (or the skill) to keep up with the neighbors. This year we have landscapers and it is so easy. They came and did a spring clean up and the yard looks awesome. Best money we every spent!

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

We also are one of two houses on our block that DO NOT have landscapers. I agree with many of the above posters. For us, it is a sense of accomplishment. Yes both DH & I work full time & don't have much time but we use the yardwork & projects outside as our "together" time doing something productive.

I grew up with my parents always tending to their yards & as I got older, both my brother & I pitched in. Now, DH & I have a system. I lawn-mow & he weedwackes. Then we do the rest of the weeding & what not together. I also enjoy the outside work & find it soothing. Another thing for me is that I am stuck in an office Monday-Friday from 6:30-3 & I enjoy being outdoors. So if I am outside doing some work, I can getting to enjoy the warmer weather Chat Icon

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

I have one...well actually in the process of getting another, since the last guy did such a bad job... anyhow... I dont have a large property at all.. I'm in Queens... but DH really doesnt have the time, so we have someone take care of it... but I like to take care of the flowers. I like to plant them and care for them... landscaper takes care of the grass and all the fun that comes with it.

Re: So, I think we're the only people on my block who dont have landscapers

We have a guy cut our lawn. You need to in FL. The sun gets brutaly hot and to do it yourself gets overwhelming. It would take DH almost 2 - 3 hours to cut the grass (with a push mower), trim the edges, and clean up. We have a guy come and he does it with his riding mower, trims the edges and cleans up and is done with all of that in an hour.

I like to garden and do all of that myself. I am far from a green thumb but I enjoy just sitting outside, planting some new flowers, tending to the flowers and just enjoying their beauty. I even did all the brick trim around the trees and in the front by the flowers. Like someone said earlier it's a real nice sense of pride that you did that yourself. Thats what I enjoy about doing the gardening myself. I feel like I worked so hard during the week at my office and then to just sit and play in the dirt I feel so relaxed and proud when my flowers get so big and look so nice.

I have a landscaper. His name is Tom aka DH Chat Icon

But sometimes he does get some of his guys from work to come & help out. We actually tried Scott's Lawn Service once and I thought it was a waste of $$. My DH does a better job!
