so i told a few more people at work
that i'm pg (discreetly) and can you believe one of the first things they asked was whether i'll be returning to work after the baby? how do you answer that? i fully intend to return to work (unfortunately) but am hoping they'll let me go to part time.

Just say YES YES YES you plan to return, even if you know you are not or need a different arrangement. It's hard to lie, I had to do it, but I didn't want them making arrangements behind my back or my decision changed.
You don't want a co worker going to your boss and blabbering away. Save that convo for the 3rd trimester

Tell them that you intend to return to work. Do not discuss the part time thing just yet, and when you do, tell it first to the person who has power to decide whether to allow it or is most willing to work to make it happen.

Re: so i told a few more people at work
i just told my co-workers yesterday and a few asked me the same thing. I do plan to go back though. I'd love more than anything to stay home, but financially i just cant.

Re: so i told a few more people at work
It's no ones business if you'll be returning! When I told my bosses they didn't ask if I were returning but I did offer the info that I hadn't given it much thought...all I said was that I would like to work, after taking the 3 months off. I really don't intend on returning unless DH and I are really strapped for $$. Everyone on here stressed that I should say I was returning so I did!

Re: so i told a few more people at work
I wasn't asked this question by my boss, but I let him know what my intentions are and that I am planning on coming back. What I decide to do once I give birth is my business.

Re: so i told a few more people at work
So far, nobody has asked me this, I guess I'm lucky. Just tell them yes and you can always change your mind or ask them about part-time when the time comes.

Re: so i told a few more people at work
good advice. my boss didn't ask yet. i've been working with him for 15 years (its the coworkers that asked) all i said was i haven't given that any thought - i'm just looking to get through my first trimester for now but i will def say a definitive yes from now on. I was so taken aback that anyone would even ask. She's a piece of work his girl
